HMSI committed to the “Make in India” initiative
The facilities of HMSI in Vithalapur are the largest scooter-only Honda plant in the world. These are a reflection of the company’s commitment to local manufacturing, perfectly aligning with the government’s vision of “Make in India”.
Honda’s best-selling two-wheeler, the Activa, and other scooter models like Dio, Activa 125 and Dio 125 are manufactured at the Vithalapur facility. The plant HMSI in Gujarat also has a dedicated engine line that serves as a base for manufacturing global engines (for two-wheelers of 250 cc category and above), to meet the demand in countries like Thailand, USA, Japan, etc.
It is worth mentioning that India is one of Honda’s most important production bases globally in two-wheeler manufacturing capacity. Honda’s two-wheeler plant in Vithalapur, along with the supply chain, will continue to create countless local employment opportunities.
HMSI also plans to increase female presence in manufacturing. The company has undertaken several initiatives to ensure the well-being of this group, including the development of infrastructure such as bathrooms, daycare centers and even hiring security guards, medical staff and supervisors.
Honda’s fourth plant in Vithalapur has accelerated development in Ahmedabad district (Gujarat). Since the inauguration of the Vithalapur plant, HMSI has undertaken several CSR initiatives (Corporate Social Responsibility).
The company is also actively working towards its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 at the Gujarat plant. Currently, use 75% of electrical energy from renewable energy sources (wind and solar energy) and uses rainwater collection.
