KTM has been in a complicated situation for months at all levels, mainly at the corporate level. This has not prevented it from continuing to evolve the development of its current range of 2026 models, which will consist, among others, of the arrival of a 790 Duke of new invoice. In fact, the Austrian firm has been working on it since last summer.
It was then that we saw the first images of several test mules, including those destined for the development of both the KTM 790 Duke and the new generation 790 Adventure. Already then we could guess what the key points would be where the brand would focus when implementing certain improvements in both models. Today some of those that will make up the next version of the well-known naked model are confirmed.
New KTM 790 Duke: What we know
KTM, following the instructions of the company’s new bosses, has focused mainly on updating the image of the new 790 Duke for an upcoming version. We can see this by paying attention to the front, where it incorporates a newly designed headlight that follows the design established in its older sisters. A single unit surrounded by LED strips presides over this part of the motorcycle.
On the other hand, the lines of the tank have been retouched, now showing more sculpted and sharp lines. An aesthetic language that extends to the side panels of the body and is complemented by the addition of a new side exhaust system or the arrival of a pair of rear-view mirrors that sport a new design. On the contrary, main elements of the assembly such as the frame, swingarm, tires or suspension equipment seem to remain unchanged.
Nor are any changes expected in terms of the engine that equips the model until now. Let us remember that in its latest evolution, the well-known 799 cc LC8c parallel twin develops 95 hp of maximum power, while the engine torque reaches 87 Nm, which translates into a forceful response when opening the throttle, especially when exiting corners and overtaking.
What is confirmed in this test mule of the future 790 Duke is the fact that KTM is extending the use of WP braking calipers within its model range. A trend that we were already able to see with the launch of the new 125 and 390 Duke, both equipped with the new WP FCR4, radial type and four pistons. In the case of our protagonist today, it would have a double system given the fact of mounting two discs on the front axle.
Finally, as confirmed by Rush Lane, it is obvious that the production model is almost ready, not only because of the definition of the general contours that this test mule offers us. We can see how a “black box” is installed in the back seat of this car for data collection while in motion. An unmistakable sign that KTM is already fine-tuning the final details around its future 790 Duke.
