A few days ago, we saw the few differences that there were in some sections and circuits between a MotoGP and an SBK, but now we can compare a MotoGP with a production motorcycle thanks to Pecco Bagnaia.
The Ducati rider was riding with the VR46 Riders Academy in Misano at the controls of a Ducati Panigale V4S which, by MotoGP regulations, can have very little preparation and which, in addition, must be equipped with Michelin tires. So, therefore, we are looking at a machine that is tremendously close to the series, and to what anyone could get with just a little money.
Bagnaia has shown how fast a stock motorcycle can go
Well, Pecco published a screenshot on his social networks that leaves no doubt about how fast a stock motorcycle is in the right hands. And the Italian was able to stop the clock, according to those images, in a brutal 1’34.70. A time that in itself is impressive but that draws more attention when compared to the fastest motorcycles on the planet: the MotoGP.
So taking Marco Bezzecchi’s pole time last year with the Aprilia RS-GP as a reference, which was 1’30″134, it would be just over 4.5 seconds. That, of course, is talking about a fast lap like the one given in a Q2, but if we compare it with the race’s fastest lap, in the hands of Marc Márquez it was 1’31″290.
If the comparison was already impressive in itself, it must be taken into account that we compared it with the fastest times. But if we take a look at the analysis per lap we see how Pecco’s time would have been, in some laps, faster than some MotoGP riders during the race.
So yes, a production motorcycle like the Ducati Panigale V4S is tremendously fast and efficient. So much so that in Bagnaia’s hands it would be this effective.
