Norton Atlas 585: the British trail bike with a twin-cylinder engine is now manufactured

The commercial resurgence of Norton Motorcycles continues to take shape with the birth of long-awaited models such as its new Atlas: the brand’s first ADV mount. The same one that its most staunch followers have been waiting for for several seasons and that now, finally, they see it born in the form of its first copy.

As it could not be otherwise, this milestone for the British company has been staged at the TVS Motor Company manufacturing plant in Hosur, India. The CEO of TVS, K. Radhakrishnandeclared during the presentation event: “The launch of the first Atlas in Hosur is a moment of great pride, bringing together the best of Norton and TVS Motor Company.”

The Norton Atlas will go on sale in the coming months

Just two months after the official launch of the exclusive Manx R, Norton Motorcycles begins production work on what is possibly its most anticipated model. While it is true that this is not the one that most represents the brand’s philosophy, not at least in concept, it will probably become the best-selling of its entire range.

Offered in 19 or 17-inch front wheel versions and under an “unmistakable British design”, as stated by its creators, the Atlas range in its standard and GT versions, are ready to be displayed in the brand’s official dealerships. Both have a 585 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine with a 270° crankshaft, which produces 69 HP at 9,300 rpm and 57 Nm at 7,500 rpm.

They also share a chassis with common elements such as a high-strength steel multi-tubular frame, a cast aluminum double-arm swingarm or a suspension system signed by KYB. For braking, both models have double 310 mm floating front discs, with radially mounted calipers. In short, two motorcycles made to enjoy the road, mainly, although with the possibility of embarking on more adventurous routes in its standard variant.

During the presentation ceremony of the first manufactured example of the Atlas range, Radhakrishnan highlighted “British design and engineering capability with Indian manufacturing excellence and a shared commitment to quality for customers around the world. Atlas introduces Norton into a highly relevant global segment, and does so with the unmistakable Norton seal.”

With the first Atlas already in production in Hosur, we are now focusing on the next steps to begin deliveries to customers in the coming months.”
