Suzuki looks again at small sports cars: this will be its new GSX-R for the A2

A little over five years ago, Suzuki chose to eliminate, from its offer in Europe, what at that time was its 2017 model GSX250R. The reason was none other than the entry into force of the current Euro5+ anti-pollution regulations. A hard setback for depending on which models, taking into account the technological investment required by the brands to be able to adapt them to the new government scenario.

The new Suzuki GSX250R could be “just around the corner”

After a long wait, everything indicates that Suzuki could be in full development of a new version of the aforementioned GSX250R. This is at least the conclusion that our Australian colleagues have reached upon learning of the approval documentation presented by the brand in China, which includes some “visual modifications and a significant technical improvement to optimize performance and reduce emissions” compared to the previous model.

Regarding the first, the Japanese firm could use the twin-cylinder engine with variable valve timing on which it has been working for several seasons. The patents themselves reveal design details that confirm the existence of a VVA system similar to that used by Yamaha in some of its models. In fact, we have already provided you with the first details of this technological innovation from Hamamatsu already entering the 2024 season.

New Suzuki GSX250R 2027: sportier, more powerful and aerodynamic

Some images presented to the patent registry offered us in detail part of its technical architecture. In it we could see a single camshaft with three lobes for each cylinder, one exhaust and two different intake. The intake lobes had different elevation and duration profiles.

Suzuki’s VVA system would be based on a two-part intake valve rocker arm, controlled by a metal pin that is activated by oil pressure, thus allowing switching between cam lobes as needed. The objective of this project is to be able to significantly evolve the efficiency of this same block (already used in other models of the brand), in order to be suitable in markets such as Europe.

Returning to the information provided by AMCN, it is almost official that the new GSX250R, It will be officially launched in China next July. This will include the aforementioned variable valve timing technology that will also serve to increase power from the 18.4 kW of the model currently sold in the country, up to 21.5 kW (about 30 HP) of the new generation.

Beyond the technical part, the 2027 GSX250R will have, among others, a redesigned exhaust system. The aesthetic renovation also reaches the front of the motorcycle where it also includes a pair of side spoilers located in the same place where we previously found the turn signals. “The latter are now located further back and higher than before, on the black bodywork, in front of the handlebars”they confirm from the oceanic environment.

Finally, the GSX250R will enjoy a technological improvement in the form of a TFT instrument panel with Bluetooth connectivity included. On the contrary, no relevant changes are observed in the rest of the assembly, since both the chassis, the suspension and most of the bodywork will remain the same as until now, although two new color schemes will be released: “starry black” and “glacier white”.
