The spectacular Donington Park track will host the eighth round of the season, the last one before the WSBK’s almost two-month vacation, and in it Nicolo Bulega could practically leave the title in sight. And the Ducati rider, who everything seems to indicate will be on the MotoGP grid in 2027, has won all 21 races so far this season, and is 121 points ahead of Iker Lecuona.
Mathematically it will not be possible, even in the event that Iker Lecuona was unlucky not to score points in any of the three races and Bulega continued with his monologue. But the sensations transmitted to date leave no doubt that Nicolo is in a spectacular moment, which only Iker and momentarily can achieve.
In fact, if it weren’t for the fact that Lecuona is being a “hammer” and has added second place after second place, since the round in Portugal we could talk about Bulega literally close to the title. Such is the difference between the two official Ducati riders after these first seven rounds, that if Nicolo does not lose points compared to the third place overall, who at this moment is Yari Montella, he could only lose the title to Lecuona. That is to say, mathematically the fight for the title with a third of the championship remaining could be completely defined on the British track.
And not only that, Lecuona right now has a 143-point advantage over Yari, so he already has more than two rounds of advantage. We are, therefore, facing a situation that has not been at all common in WSBK, and that demonstrates not only the speed of Bulega and Lecuona, but also their consistency and ability to ride at their best without making mistakes.
Because the results should not deceive, what the two Ducati riders are doing is taking full advantage of their machines to ride at very high levels. As a small touch, in Misano Bulega’s pole was 3 tenths faster than the one he achieved in 2025, and the first race 13 seconds faster.
This implies that Montella, the Lowes brothers, Axel Basani, Alberto Surra, Álvaro Bautista, Andrea Locatelli and company are not being slow, it is that they have not been able to evolve at the pace that the two official drivers have done. And in Donington they will have a new opportunity to try it although, to be honest, it seems complicated at the moment.
Donington Park Details
There is no doubt that Donington Park is one of the old school circuits. And it is not a question of nostalgia, it is a narrow and relatively short track with slopes and curves of different types.
Practically except for the main straight and the counter-goal straight, which are really almost a continuation of each other, the rest of the track is either uphill or downhill. In addition, a fluid area is clearly differentiated, the first part of the circuit until turn eight, with a more “stop and go” area that is the second with several strong brakings.
The overtaking points, precisely, are concentrated mainly in that final stretch, and although the “S of Fogarty” are not as favorable a point as in the past, the last two curves are still so.
As for curves, by the way, it has quite a parity in number, since of the 12 there are, seven are right-hand and five are left-hand, although the truth is that several of the right-hand curves are more stressful for the tires that suffer more from the right side.
