That MotoGP has lost interest for the population since you have to go to the cash register to watch each race is as evident as the figures don’t lie. What’s more, this format, which first coexisted in a peculiar way between paid and time-shifted broadcasts, has meant that even when GPs are broadcast free-to-air, the audience is not what it was at the time.
Other times and other consumer habits, where tobacco companies no longer rule and motor sport revolves around television and image rights. Better or worse? That depends on the prism through which you look at it and the interests of each person, although, obviously, if fewer people see you, there are things that become more complicated, such as finding sponsors.
But, on the other hand, it is true that broadcasting rights are a great source of income, not only for MotoGP but for major sporting events. And if everything goes in that line it is because the accounts will add up to them. Meanwhile, the fan religiously checks out to watch the championship at a cost that, in the best of cases, is around 10 euros per month, including the months when there are no races.
DAZN will continue with MotoGP broadcasting rights
In any case, as we say, the future of MotoGP will continue to be linked at least in Spain and Portugal to pay-per-view until 2030 and 2031 respectively, and will continue to do so hand in hand with the DAZN platform. Therefore, the agreement that started in 2019 will exceed the decade with this renewal, which has been celebrated by both parties.
As for the product, in reality the link is much higher than that of a chain that buys the rights since, if nothing changes, in Spain DAZN will continue to be closely linked to MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, since even the studios and narration booths for MotoGP are in the offices of what was formerly Dorna in Sant Just Desvern (Barcelona). It is therefore a collaboration, which by the way already existed at the time of Movistar, that goes further than usual and offers a product ready for broadcast.
Óscar Vilda, CEO of DAZN Iberia: «MotoGP is part of DAZN’s DNA and we are very proud to expand our relationship with MotoGP to continue offering the championship to fans in Spain and expand it to Portugal over the coming years. “It has been ten years of this alliance in Spain, which we now extend to the entire Iberian Peninsula, reinforcing our commitment to bringing the best sport to fans with the quality, innovation and experience they expect from DAZN.”

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group: «We are delighted to extend our collaboration with DAZN in Spain and expand our partnership to Portugal. We attach great importance to continuing to work with proven, high-quality partners who offer an incredible experience to fans, showing the best of this sport. MotoGP coverage on DAZN is comprehensive and high quality, reaching an impressive audience; In this period of growth for MotoGP, we are excited to continue working together so that this sport continues to grow even more. “As new fans discover MotoGP, we know they will also enjoy excellent streaming when they watch DAZN in Spain and Portugal.”
