The British GP put an end, in a peculiar way, to the summer holidays. And we say the peculiar thing because now there will be three more weekends without races before the Aragon Grand Prix arrives. But returning to what happened on the legendary Silverstone asphalt, the truth is that it was a clear reminder of the beginning of the season, when Aprilia and its riders set the pace and the others were just trying to survive.
It was already known that Silverstone was a particularly favorable track for Noale’s bikes, which have always done very well on the British track. In fact, last year Bezzecchi took victory there despite the British GP being held much earlier in the calendar, and the Italian was still adapting to the bike.
Martín was the first to move: Pole and Sprint
Jorge Martín went on vacation as a leader and with a speech in which he took pressure off himself, but when the moment of truth arrived he came out ready to not give the rest any options. No more nor less than four drivers could mathematically take the place from the Madrid native who achieved pole by the minimum compared to Fernández.

But when Sprint started things were different. As the traffic light went out he began to set the pace which, without being tremendously higher than Ogura’s, was enough to gradually distance himself from the Japanese. During the 10 laps, no one was able to attack the Aprilia rider (not even Fernández, who crashed), so Martín ended up crossing the finish line with more than a second and a half ahead of Ogura, who was solid throughout the race.
Behind them, now a little more distanced, a remade Bezzecchi who returned to the Sprint podium after winning the game against Álex Márquez, who this weekend has been without a doubt the best Ducati rider. In fact, he was the one who suffered the least with the rear tire, while Di Giannantonio fifth and, especially, Marc Márquez ninth (and thank you) had great difficulties due to extreme degradation. Between them, Acosta, Mir and Franco Morbidelli crossed the finish line.
Fernández took out the steamroller and left no stone unturned in the British GP
We could practically say that Raúl Fernández followed the script of Martín’s Sprint, but increasing the intensity. Since the traffic light went out he took the lead and corner by corner, already in the first two laps, he left all his rivals behind. No one on the grid could or knew how to follow the pace set by the Spaniard, who gave a lesson in pace and tire management.
In fact, the end of the race, with Martín 2.5 seconds away, does not reflect all the time he had ahead, which was around four seconds. Some unusual differences in the current MotoGP and, if they ended up being reduced, it was, on the one hand, because Fernández did not continue pushing until the end, and because behind him he had Jorge Martín willing to explore all possible options, and not let the victory pass him by.
Even so, in a solid weekend that lacked the icing on the cake of victory in the British GP, Jorge Martín emerges reinforced as leader in the general standings. It is no longer Ogura, who crashed, who is the closest rider but Marco Bezzecchi, who completed a 100% Aprilia podium in another incredible weekend. Furthermore, instead of four drivers, only Marco and Ai are 37 points or less behind him, so he almost has a GP margin.

But returning to what we saw on the track, we must highlight Bezzecchi’s third position, since instead of giving up when Álex Márquez approached him at the end of the race, he gritted his teeth securing the podium precisely ahead of the Spaniard. We must also highlight the fifth position of Pedro Acosta, who although he went unnoticed on Saturday, on Sunday he showed once again how far he can take a KTM that no one else can place in front positions.
After the Murcian crossed the finish line and fighting hard with him, Fabio Di Giannantonio who, like the rest of Ducati, has suffered at Silverstone more than on other tracks. And if we talk about suffering at Silverstone, Marc Márquez takes the cake. After destroying his rivals in Germany it was expected that the British GP could be difficult for him, but not that much.
A difficult one to “fight” for the podium, not having no options and falling hard in the last laps to finish seventh. In theory and according to his words it has only been a bad weekend, so we only have to wait for MotorLand Aragón, another of the circuits where Marc makes the difference. And speaking of difference, although Brad Binder and Luca Marini ended up closing the top 10 of the British GP, they did so relatively more than 22 and 23 seconds behind Fernández.

As we said, now it’s time to stop again and wait for the last weekend to enjoy the Aragon GP, the last one on Spanish territory until the closure in Cheste is lowered at the end of November.
