If you have two dirt bikes you have a kart with 100 HP… Or something similar

That part of a motorcycle ends up being an element of a kart is not so unusual. In fact, the history of go-karts is based precisely on that: on motorcycle engines that became the propellers of the “strollers” themselves. What’s more, in karts the final transmission is by chain to the axle, which has its crown like those of motorcycles.

But leaving aside this brief review of the history of one of the most fun motorized toys that one can put in one’s face, and that are much more physically demanding than they may seem, let’s dive right into the latest (for now) madness from the guys at Grind Hard Plumbing Co.

We have seen them do everything, but on this occasion they have got involved with a kart that is quite peculiar and has little to do with the karts we are used to seeing. The difference is that this one has two 450 cc four-stroke single-cylinder engines and two chassis… because it is built on two dirt bikes.

As always, ingenuity and machines have worked hard

The thing is that, despite how elaborate the project sounds, it is actually much simpler than what we are used to seeing from Americans. And it all starts from the basis of creating a new tubular chassis that is connected to each of the two motorcycles through specific couplings.

The kart still has many things to polish, but it must be recognized that they have been ingenious

Then there is the matter of putting the seat on it because what kart would it be if there is no seat? And later comes the really complicated part, which is solving the steering issue and putting a steering wheel on it to have direction. The system is more sophisticated than it may seem, because it has to act on the two motorcycles that begin to work in solidarity with what the front wheel is concerned.

Without finishing everything, it’s time for the first tests, and what we see, we must admit, doesn’t look bad at all, although it seems much more risky than anyone with certain criteria would be willing to assume.

But the biggest challenge is not there but in making the two motorcycles work simultaneously and can be driven from the center. For that they will need an accelerator that in turn controls both and, also, look for a solution to the issue of gear shifting and how to synchronize it.

In reality, it seems that this problem is going to be difficult to solve, although we will have to wait for the second part of the video to see it. We don’t say anything about the brakes, after all it seems that for these guys the issue of safeguarding their physical integrity is, like the brakes, an extra.
