Cyclone RX2 test

Cyclone RX2 test: introduction

Cyclone did not want to miss the opportunity to offer its customers a 125 for the A1 license. The Cyclone RX2 is a perfect motorcycle for those who want to get started in this world of adventure, but also for everyday use or even for long getaways.

This great little trail brings together many qualities that make it very attractive. Not only because, as standard, it includes three good suitcases that greatly expand your possibilities as a traveler, but because it performs well in almost all areas.

We have moved around the city, we have gone out into the countryside, we have enjoyed twisty roads and we have even traveled kilometers on the highway. In this test we tell you its strong and weak points without leaving us anything.

Cyclone RX2 test: Smooth engine

Cyclone RX2 test

With its 15 horsepower, the Cyclone RX2 is at the limit of the power allowed for the A1 license. It is a small engine for this trail, since it is bulky, but it fulfills its purpose like a boar. I especially liked how it increases the revs and stretches between 7,000 and 10,000 rpm. This is where we find its maximum torque and peak power and, therefore, where we should play if we are looking for fun driving without fear of its single-cylinder failing. This is water cooled, which guarantees optimal performance at any outside temperature and at any engine speed.

In addition, it is an engine that barely transmits vibrations, which makes our day-to-day driving smoother. The main drawback we found is its top speed. The RX2 is comfortable between 80 and 90 km/h and, although it can develop more speed in optimal conditions, it is too forced if we are looking to reach the legal limit.

Cyclone RX2 test: Give me kilometers

Cyclone RX2 test

On a motorcycle with a road orientation, many things must be considered before purchasing. The most important thing is your driving position. In this RX2, the position at the controls is super comfortable. The seat has a particularly soft padding and the high position of the handlebars makes traveling kilometers not tiring. Very good ergonomics and aerodynamic protection.

In addition, the distance from the seat to the ground is only 820 mm and, being narrow, it allows us to comfortably reach the ground with practically any size, as you can see in the video test where I detail it.

The tank has shapes that collect your knees when you are sitting and, at the same time, do not hinder the standing position. When you go through the countryside, the handlebars feel a little set back, but with the right setting you can put it to your liking.

And for those kilometers that you are going to want to devour you need good autonomy. With a consumption of less than 3 liters per 100 km, its 14 liter capacity will allow you to travel more than 400 km without refueling!

Cyclone RX2 test: Making a difference

Cyclone RX2 test

What does this Cyclone have that the others don’t offer? As we have already mentioned, for a 125 for beginners to the world of motorcycles, it comes standard with important gadgets that make it very attractive and that make the difference:

  • Side cases and top case
  • Center stand
  • 5-inch TFT with full mobile connectivity
  • detachable ABS
  • Traction control
  • Screen with G forces, laptimer, chrono…

And all this for a price of 3,595 euros (insurance included).

Cyclone RX2 Test: How does the Cyclone RX2 perform?

Cyclone RX2 test

As we said, we have tested the Cyclone RX2 in all types of scenarios and it has especially surprised us with its versatility.

In the city it is a very comfortable and manageable motorcycle, with a smooth clutch, an excellent turning radius, few vibrations, little heat and very quiet operation. In addition, we reach the ground very well. The suitcases somewhat limit mobility between cars, but otherwise it is a fantastic motorcycle for everyday use. In addition, on your TFT we can activate your own browser or connect the mirror link and use Maps or Waze to avoid getting lost in the city.

On the road, the cycle part is clearly above what the engine offers. The 38 millimeter inverted fork and its shock absorber work very well. Their setting is especially soft, but they perform outstandingly even in sporty driving. The brakes have good power, with a soft feel on the first touch, but consistent bite if we brake hard. The 260mm front disc and axial caliper do their job well.

The setup is very in line with the philosophy of this trail. Also, I especially like the CST mixed tires. Its compromise between road and field is very well achieved, offering good grip at all times. Every day I am a bigger fan of this brand of tires.

In the countryside it defends itself very well on simple tracks and paths. Its weight, even with suitcases, is not a problem and between first and second gear we have enough response to move with ease in more technical areas. The standing posture could be improved, but the bike does not have elements that prevent good mobility and I really like that the boots do not touch the exhaust, the rear footpegs or the center stand. To do simple routes, even with some slightly technical sections, you will have a lot of fun. Its 19-inch spoked wheel is not as agile as the 21-inch, but it allows you a lot of joy.

Obviously, when the terrain gets complicated and we need power, clutch and the ability to overcome dirt roads, its limitations appear. But it is not a motorcycle designed for that.

And there is one detail that we find especially interesting: we can disconnect the front and rear ABS from the display, and even disconnect the traction control while driving. A plus of electronics that we do not find in many of its rivals.

On the highway its top speed penalizes. It is preferable to choose curvy country roads, enjoy driving and its good ability to cover kilometers.
