Already entering the last stretch of the year, brands begin to model what will be their future range of models for the next season. In this context yamaha It seems that it will enrich its current offer with versions as special and interesting as the one that is assumed for a XSR900 SP of new invoice. That is at least the conclusion we have reached after learning about the recent registration of these acronyms by the Japanese firm before the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
XSR900 SP 2027: the technical basis
This season the initials SP are only offered on the current MT-09. In turn, the well-known naked model has versions for the A2 and a Y-AMT variant. The latter, as we already realized at the time in the in-depth test we carried out on the model, makes it clear to us that the automatic transmission also fits into a motorcycle with a sporting heritage.

Technically, in addition to its well-known CP3 engine, it maintains the cycle part of the access version unchanged, including a pump and 4-piston radial calipers and adjustable KYB suspensions on all three tracks in both trains. The same happens with equipment and technological endowment. It is precisely in this section, that of the equipment and its cycling part, where we find the main differences with the SP finish.
As we could already see in the comparison carried out between the Yamaha MT-09 SP and the Triumph Street Triple 765 RS, the one from Iwata takes a step further to a naked that seemed perfect “just like that”, thanks to the inclusion of the aforementioned extra equipment. This includes one with a carbon coating for the bottles, Öhlins rear shock, Brembo Stylema front braking and improved electronics with Track mode that is added to the three standard driving modes (Street, Sport and Rain).

What we can expect
Maintaining the same formula as that presented in its sister range, the MT-09, the future XSR900 SP should implement equipment similar to that described in a version with these characteristics. As for the rest of the set, it would remain unchanged with respect to the entry version to the range.
This also includes the everlasting 889 cc three-cylinder capable of performing up to 119 HP at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm of maximum torque at 7,000 revolutions. Yamaha’s die-cast aluminum Deltabox chassis, 17” wheels or a complete technology package would also be an indivisible part of the standard equipment of the future XSR900 SP 2027.

The technical aspects of registration
Regarding the most relevant data about this patent, we are guided by the information published by AMCN colleagues after having access to the documentation of the registry itself: “The VIN attached to the XSR900 SP in the NHTSA document suggests that it is a new model”. This “starts with the letters JYARNB2, which represents a logical advancement over existing models and does not match that of the XSR900 GP in other markets,” they explain.
“The oldest member of the family, the MT-09, is JYARN94, and successive variants are numbered in ascending order from there. The XSR900 GP has vehicle identification numbers (VIN) starting with JYARN96, 97 and 98.”. They conclude: “After the Tracer 9 (JYARN99), Yamaha couldn’t get to 100, so it turned to letters, and the Tracer 9 GT and YZF-R9 variants have VINs starting with JYARNA1, A2, A3, etc. Currently, there are no Yamahas registered with a VIN starting with JYARNB, suggesting that the XSR900 SP is a truly new model with its ‘B2’ code.”
