WSBK 2027 calendar: Jerez falls, Valencia returns and China arrives

There were already rumors that the WSBK 2027 could stop in China. In fact, the Ningbo route was considered, to which the FIM technicians traveled. Without knowing what type of homologation it achieved or not, now that the provisional calendar for next season has been made official, it is confirmed that China will be on the calendar.

But Ningbo will not be the circuit where the WSBK 2027 will compete in China for the first time in the history of the championship, it will be Shanghai. This track has once hosted the MotoGP GP, and is also on the F1 calendar. We are not talking about a small and unknown track but about the greatest and most spectacular track that the Asian country has, and which shows that something is changing in the dynamics. It should not be overlooked that Chinese brands are beginning to get involved in the championship in an important way and that, in fact, CFMOTO could end up reaching it with its V4 SR-RR.

But there are more changes to the 2027 WSBK calendar and they directly affect Spain. Jerez will not be there next season due to remodeling works, but that does not mean that there will not be two rounds in Spain, and the Circuit Ricardo Tormo of the Valencian Community returns to the calendar. Although it has been away for several years, for several seasons it was the only championship event in our country, and it gave us great races.

For its part, MotorLand Aragón will continue to be present for one more season and will also be located in the first half of the championship. In fact, the Valencia round will be the third of the season and the MotorLand round will be the fifth. Outside our country, Italy and Portugal maintain their two rounds and, as happens in MotoGP, the questioned Balaton Park disappears.

In addition, the 2027 season will be the last that WSBK visits another of the championship’s emblematic tracks: Phillip Island. One more year it will have the privilege of hosting the inaugural round and the previous tests, but it will be the last since in 2028 it will also leave the WSBK, and it will be The Bend who will take over.

The arrival of China, which will also be the last round of the season, will mean that for the first time in several seasons the WSBK will visit three continents in 2027. And although the bulk of the championship, that is, 10 of the 12 rounds, continue to be held in Europe, and of those 10 a total of six are divided two by two between Portugal, Italy and Spain, it seems a small first step towards the real internationalization of a championship with sporting potential, and with a clear interest for new brands seeking to establish themselves.
