Voge SR450X test: Introduction, positioning and rivals of the Voge SR450X

Voge’s success is based on its sales, the result of a well-planned and executed strategy since its arrival in the Spanish market by the Loncin group. Through synergies with BMW by manufacturing engines for models such as the F 800, C400X and C400GT, they have managed to overcome the market’s reluctance regarding Chinese motorcycles.

In 2025, Voge was the 4th brand by total sales in Spain (around 15,000 units, +49.5% compared to 2024), while in more than 500 cm3, it was the first in sales. Trail models like the 625DSX, 900DSX and DS800 Rally are to blame.

On the other hand, the scooter is the strongest motorcycle sector in Spain, with the medium displacement scooter being the fastest growing segment and Voge does not want to give up on it. That is why it is not unreasonable that Voge entrusts its bet to its own recipe such as the Voge SR450X (42 HP, €6,288), a twin-cylinder that, although with a use ratio of 90-10 asphalt/road, does not abandon the trail aesthetics of its successful sisters; More than providing pure off-road performance, it offers a range of use that includes everything from everyday use to the last mile of a remote trip.

Perhaps it is not the most suitable for entering trails (what scooter is?), but its cycle part allows you to travel on tracks and rural roads. With the most powerful engine in the category, it is very likely that it will hit the market at €6,288.

In short, the Voge SR450X belongs to the scooter segment crossover of medium displacement for the A2 permit. It combines automatic transmission, load capacity and urban and interurban orientation with components that allow excursions along simple roads.

Except for its twin-cylinder engine, it is compared to models of approximately 350-400 cc, with special proximity to the recently presented Zontes 368 G ETC (39 HP, €5,592). They therefore share the same rivals: Aprilia SR GT 400 (36 HP, €6,750), Honda ADV350 (28 HP, €6,790), Keeway Vieste 300 Peugeot XP400 GT (37 HP, €7,399).

All of them share the crossover vocation with the Voge SR450X and are mostly well equipped; But since they are single-cylinder, they will never be able to achieve the fineness of operation of their twin-cylinder, nor their relief to run at high speeds. He is the only one – for now – who can say it.

Voge SR450X test: Technical characteristics of the Voge SR450X

The SR450X therefore has its main difference in the engine, a 397.6 cm3 in-line twin cylinder with liquid cooling, double overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. This architecture provides a different identity within the segment, although the number of cylinders, by itself, does not determine the quality of response: balancing, electronic management and transmission tuning are also involved.

It claims 42 HP at 8,000 rpm and 44 Nm at 5,750 rpm. On paper, these are figures that provide room to combine city and highway, even with a companion, and allow access to the model with the A2 without limiting its power.

The transmission uses a continuous variator and an automatic dry centrifugal clutch. Thus, the driver manages acceleration without selecting gears or operating a clutch lever. Intended for everyday use, this solution reduces operations in urban traffic.

Its behavior depends on the calibration of the variator: how long it takes to transmit the thrust, how it matches the engine speed with the speed and what feel it offers when opening the gas smoothly, as you will see, one of its strengths. There are two driving modes, Normal and Sport, but there is hardly any difference between them.

The cycle part is articulated around a steel frame and an inverted Kayaba fork with double seatpost adjustable in compression and extension. Behind there are two shock absorbers from the same firm, with preload and compression regulation.

The adjustment possibilities allow the assembly to be adapted, but require distinguishing functions: modifying the preload serves to adapt the sag of the suspension to the load; Acting on the hydraulics changes how quickly their compression or extension is controlled. I was able to see the usefulness of the rear hydraulic adjustments during the route through Segovia.

The wheels combine 17-inch tubeless spoke rims at the front and 14 at the rear, with tires measuring 110/70 and 150/70, respectively. It is a configuration consistent with the crossover concept: it seeks to make use on asphalt and traffic on less uniform surfaces compatible. The larger diameter front wheel geometrically favors passing over obstacles compared to a smaller one, but the result also depends on the tire, suspensions and speed.

In the end you have a balanced tread on the road and agility for changes of direction without prejudice to going out on tracks and paths. Braking uses 300 mm discs at the front and 240 at the rear, with a J.Juan four-piston radial front caliper and a Nissin rear set. There is ABS and traction control, with the ability to disable the rear ABS for off-road use. The traction control is a bit intrusive, but fortunately it can be turned off with a dedicated button.

The proportions of its design come from the trail world. If we talk about dimensions, the seat is located at 795 mm and declares 180 mm of ground clearance. It also specifies 198 kg in running order without gasoline, which will be around 213-214 kg with a full tank. The autonomy deserves another careful reading: with 18 liters and 4.3 l/100 km approved, the theoretical calculation is around 419 kilometers, without discounting reserve.

The reality is closer to 5.4-5.4 l/100 km, at least in my case (85 kg) during the route, which did not include urban but did include a cheerful pace. A long-term test will provide more accurate numbers with each use.

The equipment addresses comfort, information and load capacity. It includes an electric windshield in infinite positions, heated grips and driver’s seat, seven-inch TFT instrumentation, connectivity, tire pressure monitoring, cameras and warning radar. These functions respond to different needs: some make traveling cold easier, others help detect incidents or nearby vehicles.

The only thing missing is the cruise control, undoubtedly absent until the model is equipped with an electronic accelerator, which it certainly does not need – as you will read later -, since the feel of the gas is perfect in all circumstances.

There are details that surprise for the better, such as the fog lights, integrated into the design instead of attached to the defenses. The space under the seat is enough for an integral, a jet and something else, sufficient for daily use, but which can be complemented with suitcases and a trunk to undertake more ambitious routes, with or without a companion. It comes in five matte colors (white, black, grey, green and blue).

Voge SR450X test: How the Voge SR450X performs

I like to go to motorcycle presentations with expectation. The Voge SR450X came with a lot, as it addresses the most popular segment – scooter crossover medium displacement – from a different and ambitious point of view. The rest of its rivals are nothing but different designs around the same scheme that is known to work and works very well.

After all, scooters crossover either adventure -to continue with the anglicisms- medium displacement are two-wheeled SUVs. Following the thread, the atavistic delay of motorcycles with respect to cars makes sense: with less space and weight, the motorcycle requires the miniaturization of the technological components a car can carry; That takes time, the aforementioned delay. The same goes for concepts, see SUVs. Once the SUV concept is established, the next thing is specialization: more road-going, more sporty, more urban.

With the SR450X, Voge aims for the road without giving up daily use. The twin-cylinder engine allows you to tackle long stretches on the highway without straining the engine, while at the same time providing a smooth operation typical of a premium product. The feel of the gas, knowing that it is a throttle by wire, is incredibly good, which reminds me that, before radial calipers, there were very good brakes.

By this I mean that we follow technological advances with blind faith. This scooter has a throttle by cable, radial caliper and accelerates like the best of electronic accelerators; It also brakes very well. What I want to get at is that, beyond a technical sheet or a list of noble components, there must be engineering behind it and it is clear that there is here. It is capable of being very fine with the gas, but at the same time it delivers torque and power, thrust after all, in a joyful way. It does not cross the sports spectrum, although it is capable of riding very fast. Just as it is bulky and somewhat heavy, the kilos are reduced while driving, well distributed over a low center of gravity.

My first feeling when going up was very good. Before starting up and if there is time, I like to tinker with the interface and menus. The pinecones and the TFT are well resolved, the glove boxes too – the right one is better – and the handlebar position is comfortable. The feet have longitudinal space and there are also footpegs to ride standing in the field.

When starting, I am surprised by the smoothness of the sound and feel of the gas. It is capable of modulating the commands of your hand with almost electric precision, but with the joy that underlies the combustion engine. That is quality and it has been sought after.

In addition, a twin-cylinder will have more parts, but also less wear, especially at high speeds. It feels soft and powerful at the same time. Recoveries (overtakes) are a procedure and give confidence.

As I enter the first curves, I see that the traction control is somewhat invasive, as it comes in to say hello before its presence is necessary. It can be disconnected, but like the rear ABS, it cannot be disconnected while driving. Corner entry is standard, but you always have to keep in mind that you carry more than 200 kg between your legs.

I also detect the rear end a little bouncy, which leads me to the conclusion that it is more touring that racingsomething that its trail image already made one suspect. However, after the first stop I press 3 clicks on the hydraulics of each rear shock absorber and the rear shock no longer moves at a generous pace. It does not mean that it is racing, it is not its character, but it does allow one to give joy to the soul in a favorable section.

It is capable of running at high speeds without the engine suffering, no matter how much it runs near the ignition cut-off, which gives an idea of its ability to run on fast roads. Like all motorcycles, it likes good asphalt roads, but that 10% rough allows it to tackle sections of broken asphalt without the slightest problem.

Before stopping for lunch in Pedraza, we entered a dirt track that seemed easy at first glance, but contained sand as fine as beach sand. It was enough to be aware of the capabilities and limitations of the SR450X off-road. Its standard footpegs allow you to stand up, yes, with your legs wide apart. The position is not very orthodox, but it allows you to tackle certain sections with better visibility, although in the sand I preferred to sit and paddle with my legs, just in case.

Voge SR450X test

In the end, and without having been able to test the SR450X in an urban environment, I did have the feeling of being faced with a very capable scooter in all areas with excellent ride quality. It is a scooter that is enjoyable to use, that welcomes you comfortably and that is capable of accelerating forcefully and with a silky hand at the same time.

Except for the absence of cruise control, it has excellent equipment, is the most powerful in its category and has good loading capacity. It is not a mouser, but a medium-long distance that makes use of its twin-cylinder peculiarity for the better.

Happy drivers
