Less than a week ago Kawasaki gave us a small preview, in the form of a teaser video, of what would be its next model. Already then, a future Versys 900 sounded increasingly stronger to become the protagonist of this long-awaited premiere.
Under the motto “Destination: Adrenaline. Coming soon…”those from Akashi offered us a map of the different scenarios where their future road model circulated. Simultaneously we heard the unmistakable roar of a high-performance four-cylinder engine…
The Versys 900 is now a reality
Finally, the people at Kawasaki have listened to their most staunch followers who had been giving shape to the idea for some time that the brand would finally launch a Versys 900. A model that arrives loaded with new features and that also stands as the sportiest version of this famous family to date.
The brand defines it as a “sublime combination of established and revered Versys attributes with the iconic Z-based 948 cm³ inline four-cylinder engine will attract a new, adventurous and adrenaline-hungry audience, eager to explore the excitement and versatility of the Versys legend.”
Technical part of the model
At the heart of the Versys 900 is a 948 cm³ inline four-cylinder engine inspired by Kawasaki’s naked Z models, with a maximum power of 122 HP (89.6 kW) at 9,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 97.3 Nm at 8,000 rpm. It combines a powerful and controllable response at low and medium revolutions with a marked character at the top of the rev counter, providing performance in a wide range of driving situations, whether in the city, in the mountains or on the road.
The propeller is integrated into a new multi-tubular chassis. A almost 50:50 weight distribution between the front and rear provides light and agile maneuverability. The assembly rests on a pair of 17” wheels shod with pneumatic tires. Metzeler Roadtec 01thus ratifying its sporty character, but without leaving aside aspects as important in a motorcycle of this type as ergonomics.
In this regard we highlight an upright driving position, a seven-position adjustable screen and a height-adjustable seat (825 mm > 845 mm). Latest technology
Kawasaki has not skimped when it comes to providing its new Versys 900 with technology. In this context we find ourselves faced with the first Versys model to be equipped with ARAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) including Adaptive Cruise Control Lite (ACC Lite), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).
In addition, it also includes an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) that helps reduce the risk of rear-end collisions. We also have smartphone connectivity through Rideology The App Motorcycle that gives riders access to a range of useful features for everything from daily riding to travel, while a 5” full-color TFT instrument panel supports Turn-by-Turn Navigation.
Likewise, pilots can choose between two screen designs that adapt to their preferences and driving needs:
- Type 1: Emphasize the excitement of the engine
- Type 2: Prioritize visibility of navigation and vehicle information
Design and equipment in accordance
The new Aero Edge design concept creates a “impression of lightness and fluidity, as if air were flowing through the body, emphasizing the agility of the motorcycle. The result is a clearly sporty appearance that clearly communicates the unique character of the Versys 900”, they explain from Kawasaki. The newly designed accessory luggage system integrates seamlessly with the bodywork, maintaining a sleek and sporty look even when fully equipped for travel.
Kawasaki dealers will also offer Edition modelsincluding versions Tourer and Grand Tourer with original accessories. A 70 kW variant will also be available, as well as an SE version. The Versys 900 SE adds genuine Kawasaki accessories such as compact LED fog lights, hand guards, heated grips, a radiator screen, skid plates, a lower fairing and a center stand.
Additional standard equipment of the Versys 900 technology also includes Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF), Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), Enhanced ABS, Power Modes, Integrated Riding Modes, Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS).
