A Spanish rider is fighting for the MX2 world championship, and he does it with a completely new motorcycle

Making comparisons is always hateful, and that is why we are not going to compare Guillén Farrés with any other Spanish motocross rider, no matter how successful he may be. Each sporting career and each person is unique, and leads their own path and their own future. But that does not mean that the season that Farrés is carrying out, in the MX2 World Championship, goes unnoticed by any means.

This season the Triumph rider is achieving great results, so much so that this past weekend has been perfect for him. During the Portuguese GP, held in Ágeda, Farrés achieved a fabulous triple and 60 points out of a possible 60.

The Triumph rider did not leave even crumbs to his rivals in Portugal

After his great performance in Italy, where he finished second at the weekend, he arrived at the tenth round of the MX2 World Championship in the best possible conditions and on a track that he likes, with a sandy surface, hard base, big jumps and different lines. So he got to work, and on Saturday he won the qualifying race and the 10 points it awards.

Farrés has shone in Portugal, but he has had a very solid season

On Sunday he did not leave any crumbs to his rivals, leading the first heat from second place and achieving what at that time was his sixth heat victory of the season. But in the second he already brought out his full arsenal, even marking the holeshot that had escaped him in the first race, and dealing a hard blow to the championship and especially to Sacha Coenen, the overall leader.

More than 10 seconds separated Coenen from an intractable Farrés, who has now reduced the difference between him and the lead to 32 points with still 9 rounds left. There is no doubt that Guillén’s success is based on his own talent and work capacity, but we must not overlook the fact that he competes with a motorcycle like the Triumph TF 250-X. A “newcomer” to the category, but one who is showing all her potential, not only in the hands of Farrés but also of her partner, Camden McLellan.

Both are involved in the fight for the title, with Guillén Farrés closer to the head of Coenen, but with McLellan in fourth position and just two points behind the third place of the current champion, Simon Längenfelder, when the final stretch of the championship begins. And the MXGP doesn’t stop, with three GPs in July, another three in August and the last three and the end of the season in September.

Guillem Farres: “It’s been an incredible weekend here in Portugal. Going away with a perfect 1-1-1 score is exactly what we were looking for, so I’m really happy with how everything turned out. I had two good starts on Sunday, which made a big difference, and from there I was able to manage both races, control my pace and make smart decisions. The bike was working really well and I felt comfortable throughout the weekend. A big thank you to the team for all their hard work. The goal now is to maintain this momentum and fight for results like this in every round.”
