Bassella surrenders to Yamaha’s off-road epic

He Ténéré Spirit 2026 has once again made it clear that the Yamaha Ténéré 700 has something that goes far beyond a technical sheet, a displacement or an aesthetic inspired by rally raids. It has community, it has spirit and it has that difficult-to-achieve ability to turn a simple motorcycle outing into an experience that is remembered for a long time. The fifth edition of the event, held on May 15 and 16, brought together more than 80 users of Ténéré 700 and its different versions at Bassella Off-Road Experiences, one of the reference settings for off-road lovers in Spain.

Bassella vibrates with the Yamaha trail community

For the first time, Bassella became the epicenter of the Ténéré Spirit, and it did so with an intense, very complete program loaded with content for all levels. The enclave could not have been better chosen. Its tracks, paths, slopes and natural environment fit perfectly with the philosophy of a motorcycle that was born to leave the asphalt without complexes, but that also knows how to cover long distances with solvency. The Ténéré 700 is, since its arrival on the market, one of the most appreciated mid-trail trail bikes by those looking for mechanical simplicity, real country capability and a riding position designed to spend many hours on the bike.

Friday’s day began with the Ténéré School, a series of training sessions focused on improving off-road driving technique. It was not simply about “taking a walk around the countryside”, but rather learning to read the terrain, manage inertia, position the body well, gain confidence on dirt and understand how a medium-weight trail bike behaves when the surface is no longer perfect. To do this, the participants had top-level instructors such as Pol Tarrés, Jordi Arcarons or Xavi Subirana, names that do not need much introduction within the universe of trail, enduro and rally raids.

The changing weather of the first day added that point of uncertainty that so defines the real adventure. Because in off-road, as in great trips, you don’t always ride under a blue sky or on a clean and predictable track. Rain, mud, humidity or changes in grip are part of the learning process. And precisely that is where events like the Ténéré Spirit make all their sense: they allow users to improve in a controlled environment, learn from the best and share experience with other riders who experience the motorcycle in a very similar way.

After the training, one of the most special moments of Friday arrived: the premiere of the first official Yamaha podcast in Spain, baptized “El Último Waypoint”. Hosted by Santi Ayala, the format allowed attendees to enjoy a close conversation with Jordi Arcarons and Pol Tarrés, two figures who know perfectly what it means to face navigation, physical resistance, mental management and improvisation in demanding scenarios. The anecdotes and reflections on the rally raids provided that human component that connects so much with the Ténéré philosophy: adventure, challenge and camaraderie.

The day continued with the official briefing for Saturday’s route, a fundamental part of preparing for a day that promised to be demanding. The participants received the main instructions of the route, the key points and the necessary recommendations to safely face a long and varied journey. But before closing on Friday there was still room for pure adrenaline with the WR125R Challenge, a team event in a relay and elimination format that tested the speed, strategy and coordination of the participants.

The WR125R Challenge was one of the most celebrated ingredients of the event. Its competitive, dynamic and casual format allowed us to reduce the tension before the big route, but also bring out that competitive gene that many motorcyclists carry inside. The test crowned three winners, who received a prize valued at 1,500 euros in Yamaha items. Beyond the result, the activity reinforced the group atmosphere and added an extra dose of spectacle to an already very complete first day.

On Saturday the main course arrived. It was time to get up early to face a route of more than 260 kilometers through different areas of the Pre-Pyrenees and the Catalan Pyrenees. The route combined forest tracks, mountain roads, stretches of twisty asphalt and more technical trail-type areas, offering a very wide range of driving situations. This variety is precisely what best defines a trail adventure: the ability to go from asphalt to dirt, from a fast track to a rougher section, from a curvy road to a navigation area where concentration is key.

The non-competitive route was carried out using GPS navigation and allowed participants to ride through spectacular landscapes, reaching heights close to 2,000 meters in altitude at some points. It wasn’t a race, nor was it necessary. The objective was to enjoy, learn, overcome the challenge and complete a day of adventure at the appropriate pace for each pilot. Halfway through the route, a refreshment point allowed us to regain strength before continuing on our way back to Bassella.

For two days, Ténéré Spirit 2026 once again demonstrated that the Ténéré family is more alive than ever. The mix of technical training, shared activities, friendly competition and a great off-road route consolidated the event as one of the most relevant events on the adventure calendar in Spain.
