BMW F900 R and F900 XR 2025 test

BMW F900 R and F900 XR 2025 test

We can define the BMW F900 R and F 900 XR as two of the most balanced medium cylindrated models of the brand … either by benefits, equipment or technology. But for their new evolution in 2025, the Germans have wanted to break that equilateral triangle; lengthening one of its sides towards the sports field.

A change that occurs after a deep market study and where the users of the outgoing F900 have had a lot of weight. Does the most repeated plea? Greater sportsmanship. Therefore, sections such as suspensions or geometries (in the case of BMW F900 R), have been updated to put more emphasis on motorcycle performance.

The technological package also grows and with it, not only a notable improvement of security, but also a more aggressive power delivery with driving modes that until then were only offered as optional equipment. All this and much more we could try it first hand in the national presentation that took place on the roads that join Madrid and Ávila. But to know everything they offer, you will have to reach the end of the article.

It was the first model that I had to try during the presentation. It is a purely asphalt trail motorcycle due to its 17 -inch wheel configuration. Thus, it improves its traveling motorcycle status by having a screen of greater proportions, and some covers that help eliminate much of air turbulence. To this, it also joins a double frontal optics that now incorporates daylight and adaptive headlights, as well as a USB-C port and heated fists … standard!

Its dimensions have remained virtually intact, so it is still a narrow and light motorcycle. In fact, it is 3 kg lighter than the previous version, stopping the scale in the 209 kg. The culprits? Some lighter new design tires and a lithium -ion battery. If we unite a seat height at 825 mm from the ground, we can say that it is a truly accessible asphalt trail for a wide spectrum of bikers.

The engine, except for the update to the Euro5+standard, does not change: an 895cc bicilindrical that develops 105 hp of power and a maximum torque of 93 Nm. Of course, with the focus on offering a power delivery from the lower zone of courses. In addition, its 35 kW configuration for card users A2 is also maintained. Yes, an expanded technological package is a novelty, with the Dynamic mode, the traction control and the drag control that, in broad strokes, serves as an antirebote clutch.

It is in the cycle part where the BMW F900 XR leaves the canon established by the previous model. In the front train an inverted fork has been installed with 43 mm bottles and triple track adjustment, while behind, our test unit maintained the mono -amplitator with electronic adjustment signed by ZF. As for the brakes, the equipment contributed by Brembo is maintained, with radial tweezers of four pistons and 320 mm discs. However, to the double channel ABS, the function of this system is joined in curve to strengthen sports in sports. And all this information can be seen by a generous color TFT screen of 5.9 ».

Except for the front, the BMW F900 XR 2025 feels practically equal to the previous version. Accessibility and agility are breathed from the first meters. The driving posture is totally comfortable, with your back upward, slightly flexed arms and legs practically at right angle.

The work in the power curve is noted, with a remarkable acceleration at low regime. In fact, this is the ‘recreation patio’ of this bicylindrical block, since if we take it to the red zone, we begin to notice how the power decays. It is very nice to drive in all kinds of conditions, and in this it has a lot to do with the Dynamic mode now built as standard. With him activated, the touch of gas becomes more critical and the power unfolds more steadily. Of course, tarnish the experience a little Shifter of double action somewhat hard.

On highway, the motorcycle is very noble. The new screen and the covers help a lot to deflect the air with my 170 cm tall. When the curves arrive, the new fork uncovers its true facet. It is now more fun to attack the curves and the motorcycle feels more agile in sports driving.

Yes, it is true that the factory tarado is soft, but some light tweaks in the rebound and the hydraulics help a lot to the fork work perfectly when we are light rhythm. It can even be touched with the strokes of the strokes with great ease

In the same line the brakes move. They have a good touch and their mordant is powerful since you act the first millimeters of the handle. All this, with a modularity that accompanies the entire route of it. For its part, the rear brake lever has a good balance between route and braking power.

The F900 R 2025 was the second course of the national presentation. Although he shares a large part of the changes of his most tourer sister, the Naked still reduces the weight, going on 208 kg with all the filled filled. The ergonomic triangle also changes. The handlebar has approached and the strokes have been delayed, which inevitably causes the front train to be more loaded.

The engine works in the same way. With energy very few laps, which does not have to sweat the engine stretch on a good curves road. As in the XR, I had the same problem as a Shifter Bidirectional that was even harder and to which work was choked on strong braking, where several marches had to be reduced in a short period of time.

New geometries are noticed … and a lot. The motorcycle behaves better in sports driving, with greater support in the front train that improves performance especially at the entrance of the curves. However, that greater sportsmanship has a negative impact on the comfort comfort. The driving position is more tired and now is not intended to make long travel sessions. On the other hand, the hardness of the seat does not invite to spend long on the motorcycle.

Unlike the F 900 XR, the suspension tarado is focused on sports driving, with a hardness that helps maintain the motorcycle firm both opening gas, and in braking. Similarly, its triple route adjustment in the front will allow to adjust your response to the pilot’s taste.

Obviously, on highway, like any other Naked, the F900 R suffers from a lack of protection against air. This is the ‘toll’ to pay for having a versatility to have fun on a good curves, as has been the case, but also to serve as a daily motorcycle.
