After its official presentation at the Concorso d’Eleganza 2024the BMW R20 Concept has become one of the most anticipated motorcycles from the German brand. Now it has reappeared in the BMW Motorrad Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen Showing a very particular image, thanks to the accessories made with deer leather from the company Meindl Fashion.
It was our colleagues at Motorrad Online who informed us of the presence of the BMW R20 at this massive event held from July 5 to 7, which also delighted us with the powerful sound emitted by its powerful air-oil cooled Big Boxer.
The BMW R20 Concept with custom-made “leather pants”
The brand itself has left us some images and videos of the BMW R20 Concept on their various social networks. On them we can also see Markus Flasch, director of BMW Motorrad, enjoying the benefits of the striking German bike. In any case, it is still up in the air whether the Bavarian firm will put the model into production, or so he claims. Alexander BuckanHead of Design at BMW Motorrad: “It is not a promise that a production version of the BMW R20 will follow.”
In the words of Markus Flaschin an interview with Motorrad Online, after the official presentation of the BMW R20 at the Concorso d’Eleganza in Villa d’Este on Lake Como:“I have great respect for the decision, which has taken a long time. For me and Markus Schramm, it was a very brave step to create a motorcycle to attract customers from another brand who also become lethargic or talk about it. But we are not dissatisfied with the sales figures of the R 18.”
And continues: “It’s a good bike and it looks elegant, but in my opinion it’s not a typical BMW. With the motto ‘reinforcing strengths’ we will present something in which we will try to incorporate this engine, the most typical BMW flagship, which is this big boxer, into a more typical BMW motorcycle.”
Concludes: “We showed a concept bike on the platform of the Concorso d’Eleganza in Villa d’Este on Lake Como. This will be a test to see if we can do something completely different with the engine. I don’t mean removing something else, but rather complementing it.”
Let us remember that this striking concept stands out for having, among other elements, the following:
- Paralever system in a two-arm variant
- Chrome-molybdenum steel swingarm
- Öhlins Blackline Suspensions
- Radial ISR brakes with six-piston calipers
- 2 to 2 exhaust system
- 2,000 cc air and oil cooled Big Boxer engine
- Aluminum tank
- Single seat, upholstered in black alcantara and fine grain leather, etc.
It is not expected at least until the next season 2026 BMW Motorrad decides to launch a definitive version of the R20 on the market, with a price that will most likely exceed the 20,000 euro barrier.
