BMW’s electric motorcycle will be reality in 2025 (and it’s not what you expected)

The next BMW Motorrad electric motorcycle could be closer than we imagine. That is, at least, the theory that Cycle World’s companions consider after having known the last patent record carried out by its Indian TVS Motor partner.

In these images that we can show you today, it is clear that the registered design would be related to a plug -in mount and not with a scooter to use, as usual until now.

A BMW electric motorcycle “low cost”?

Reviewing the story between TVS Motor and the German brand, and as it can end up leading to what would be the first BMW electric motorcycle, we must go back to 2021, when TVS announced its intention to create a brand dedicated exclusively to EV models.

Shortly after, both companies presented their collaboration agreement for the development of new plug -in models. Already in the summer of 2022, everything pointed out that TVS and BMW would develop a new electrical model on the G 310 platform. Some rates, the work of the Indian designer Pratyush Rout, gave us an orientation of what was the idea that both firms carried in the design of the first BMW electric motorcycle.

In January last year the images of the patent registration of what could be the first BMW electric motorcycle were leaked. This was ahead of us a truly striking fact with respect to the area that would welcome the batteries. Precisely that point could be interchangeable with different versions and modifications, to adapt it from Motos Trail to Deportivas, through Custom or Naked.

TVS could already be designing BMW's next electric motorcycle

Now, the new tvs patent requests give a new nut rotation to the concept, since “The batteries have been located on both sides of the painting so that the driver can mount the bicycle as a conventional motorcycle and not as a scooter with his feet ahead”as detail from Cycle World. In addition, the descriptive text of the patent makes it clear that we are facing a “Motorcycle electric vehicle” and not of a scooter.

Other technical details that are worth mentioning in this design are, for example, the use of a monobrazo tilting or a belt transmission and helical gears, a technical solution that resembles which uses the well -known CE 04 of BMW. The engine that could be BMW’s first electric motorcycle has certain similarities with which the King Ev Max tricycle manufactured by TVS, capable of performing 15 hp of power.

TVS could already be designing BMW's next electric motorcycle

This leads us to think that BMW’s first electric motorcycle could be valid to drive it with the current A1 card, although this platform ends up being scalablely used in other models of different typology and performance. Recall that BMW Motorrad requested in 2020 the registration of the acronym “DC” for a future range of electric models that would join the current CE.

These alphanumeric combinations would go from the “DC 01” to the “DC 09”, confirming the theory of a range of models of different size and power. It may be TVS who initially premieres this possible plug -in offer in India, with its range of models that would subsequently be exported to other parts of the world under the BMW Motorrad logo, as has previously happened with other ranges of the German firm.
