Brembo has been working on new technologies for more than a decade to increase the efficiency of its braking equipment. This development has finally led to the official launch of Sensify a technical solution based on AI that is also scalable and adaptable to multiple vehicles: from next-generation driving assistance systems to fully autonomous driving applications.
Sensify marks a before and after in braking systems
Taking a look at the development of Sensify, it was in mid-2021 when Brembo presented the Brembo New G Sessanta brake caliper, a prototype inspired by the first brake caliper but brought to the 21st century, with mobile connection as well as light, status warning and the possibility of locking it to perform anti-theft functions. Later we learned about the first advances of Sensify, although it was not until 2024 when the Italian brand offered us the first conclusions of the project.
Sensify is mainly based on a system, where artificial intelligence and software play an active role. Data collection is leveraged to improve the driver experience and allows the system to be constantly updated. To achieve this, it integrates an electronic brain combined with the company’s brake components: calipers, discs and friction materials.
Now, after its official launch, the brand states that “has been developed to support a wide range of advanced vehicle architectures” and tells us that this “advance represents a decisive step in the evolution of braking towards a future fully defined by software”. In the words of Daniele SchillaciCEO of Brembo: “Sensify brings our vision of an intelligent, integrated braking platform to life.”
This milestone represents a significant advance in the adoption of by-wire braking systems expressly controlled by electronics, dispensing with traditional hydraulic circuits and distributing intelligence at the level of each wheel, thus eliminating centralized action.
In this sense, Schillaci praises the qualities of Sensify when he states that his new technology is “designed to orchestrate the entire ecosystem of the vehicle wheel.” Furthermore, it ensures that “contributes to safer mobility and paves the way to the next generation of software-defined vehicles, reflecting our long-term purpose of moving towards an accident-free future.”
In short, Sensify allows precise and continuous modulation of braking forces, which favors stable and controlled vehicle behavior even in complex and variable driving conditions, increasing the feeling of safety. Likewise, the platform integrates naturally “in the software-defined vehicle paradigm, allowing manufacturers to deploy advanced functionalities on different vehicle platforms” just as the brand concludes.
Brembo has recently signed additional contracts with new customers for the implementation of Sensify. As a result, the company plans to equip hundreds of thousands of vehicles per year, paving the way for large-scale deployment of its new technology. It is very likely that in the future we will be able to use it in the two-wheeled sector, something that is currently still being developed in the R&D laboratories of the Italian firm.
