DGT, Anesdor and Mapfre United Foundation to foster use of the MOTORCYCLE SYSTEMS

The Director of the DGT Road Safety Observatory, Álvaro Gómez, has presented, together with the general secretary of the National Association of Companies of the two -wheeled sector (Anesdor), Jose María Riaño and the Director of the Area of Prevention and Road Safety of the Mapfre Foundation, Jesús Monclús, a informative campaign on the acquaintances Aras Systems.

The campaign, which can be seen in the different communication channels of the three organizations (website and social networks) is composed of a guide with information on the operation and advantages of the arras systems, and a dozen videos dedicated each of them to a specific help device. The guide can be downloaded on the Anesdor website.

The DGT, meanwhile, has included on its website, within the section Move with security/tips for drivers, a section dedicated exclusively to the Aras systems, where the videos will be hung. Similarly, the Mapfre Foundation will upload them to its website. Álvaro Gómez has begun the presentation recalling the concern of the DGT for motorists:

“A collective that worries us a lot about the vulnerability it represents and the high accidents it suffers. They know that we work together to adopt measures for the road safety of the collective and today we are here to value an industry, that of the two wheels, which has evolved to the compass of technology and is marking a new era, by providing the current models of the most pointer technology to make more safe motorcycles.”

Concludes: “We did it with the ADAS to publicize citizens the advantages of carrying these devices activated during driving and that since last July they are mandatory for vehicles that enroll and now it’s time to publicize these systems on motorcycles. System systems are one of the great revolutions that can help reduce the accident rate of the collective, as the Adas are already doing in cars.”

The systems are redefined the concept of security on two wheels

The videos are starring Dani PedrosaMotoGP legend and winner of three titles in the Motorcycling World Championship in the categories of 125 cc and 250 cc and by Ramón ForcadaMechanical Engineer and Technical Director in different teams of the Motorcycling World Championship for more than 30 years. In addition, they have occurred with the collaboration of the Bosch technology company, an example of public-private collaboration that works so well in the world of road safety.

Through the different audiovisual pieces, both motorcycle experts clearly and easily explain the arras systems that the new motorcycle models have incorporated, how they apply and how can help the users of the two wheels during driving.

Of the ten videos that have been edited, the first, which is the one that has been projected during the press conference, and that can be downloaded here, explains in a generic way that they are the arras systems and the benefits they present. Both protagonists explain how technology has become the great ally of motorcycles and allows the user to program these help systems to adapt it to the different situations that occur on the road, prevent any dangerous situation that the motorist can find and correct the errors that may occur.

DGT, Anesdor and Mapfre United Foundation to foster use of the MOTORCYCLE SYSTEMS

With a weekly periodicity, the three organizations will publish the videos about advanced braking systems, the traction control system, the adaptive suspension, the adaptive cruise control, the dead angle radar, driving mode, adaptive lighting systems, antiwheelie system and emergency call, as well as informative pills on social networks with the aim of informing the motorcyclists. All these aid can be classified in the following categories:

  • Dynamic assistance systems designed to immediately intervene in motorcycle behavior. These mechanisms adapt continuously to the changing conditions of the environment and the vehicle itself, correcting possible driving errors and improving comfort to reduce the pilot’s fatigue.
  • The sensorization systems of the environment that offer constant surveillance through the use of radars, cameras and other sensors. These tools allow to detect the presence of other vehicles, pedestrians or obstacles, providing a faster and faster response to any unforeseen road.
  • Visibility improvement systems have also been a priority. The new lighting technologies seek not only to offer a clearer vision to the driver, but also to increase the visibility of the motorcycle for the rest of the road users, especially in conditions of little light, adverse climate or intense traffic.
  • Connectivity systems such as V2V systems (vehicle vehicle) and V2X (infrastructure vehicle) are revolutionizing road safety. These systems allow anticipating risk situations, while services such as ECALL, an automatic emergency warning system, improve the response in case of accident.

The systems are redefine the concept of security on two wheels, offering a safer and more reliable driving experience. According to Jose María Riaño, “The presence of the motorcycle on our roads is increasing due to the advantages they offer in mobility, so they are more present in accidents. Although the accident rate per 10,000 vehicles does not grow, absolute figures grow and in any case it is necessary to achieve a clear decreasing tendency of that rate.”

“The industry, knowledgeable of the vulnerability of the motorcycle, is totally committed to road safety and annually invests millionaire figures in implementing new technologies that provide a safer driving. These technologies and driving aids, known as the sake, are available in the motorcycles that are currently sold, but the average age of the motorcycle park in Spain is 17.8 years, motorcycles that do not have the current technology Therefore, they are detrimental to road safety.

DGT, Anesdor and Mapfre United Foundation to foster use of the MOTORCYCLE SYSTEMS

The Secretary General of Anesdor has given way to a video in which the protagonists of the campaign, each from their experience, respond to a series of very common questions among motorists who help clear doubts about the use of these motor driving aid systems. Finally, Jesus Monclús has taken the floor, who stressed that:

“It is the time of motorcycles, the safety of motorcycles. While the accident rate of cars in recent years has decreased by 10%, that of motorcycles has increased by 43%. Without body, the safety of motorcycles must focus on increasingly responsible and better formed users, on the motorcyclist protection equipment and, from now on, in the numerous advanced safety systems that are already available.”

Concludes: “We believe that these systems can reduce serious and mortal accidents by approximately 30%, and save around 150 lives and 1,000 hospitalizations per year. Technology is now available and efforts should now focus on making it reach all motorcycles.”
