Ducati recovers the SP acronym for 2027: this will be the new Panigale V4 SP more focused on the circuit

After celebrating a century of history, Ducati continues to develop new models and versions with which to enrich its current range. One of these special variants that seems to be about to materialize would be in the form of Panigale V4 SP (Sport Production) facing the next season of 2027. That is the information that has been leaked in international media following the request presented by the Italian firm to the well-known California Air Resources Board (CARB).

Ducati Panigale V4 SP 2027: what we know

According to what Motorcycle colleagues have published in the last few hours, Ducati would have requested the registration of the SP acronym this same month of July before the aforementioned North American certification entity. These explain that “CARB had already certified the 2027 1103cc Panigale V4 range in March, but Ducati submitted a review in July…”.

They conclude by clarifying that the last request would be intended “specifically to add the SP model (as well as a “Ducati Performance” version, which typically includes an upgraded full exhaust system)”. In conclusion we would be facing the development of a variant with a clear focus focused on track use halfway between the standard version and the radical V4 R.

A successful formula already used

Looking back we can see how Ducati has made use of this formula in previous generations. We have the last of these versions with the exclusive Panigale V4 SP2 30 Anniversario 916, developed on the 2022 SP2 platform. Equipped with the well-known four-cylinder engine in V at 90º with 1,103 ccequipped with STM-EVO SBK dry clutch, the brand declared at the time a maximum power of 215 HP.

This figure could be raised to 228 HP by equipping an Akrapovic racing kit.which in the case of the V4 SP 2027 would be directly associated with the aforementioned “Ducati Performance” version. Ohlins suspensions and Brembo “black leg” brakes, as well as a host of components made of carbon fiber, would also be part of the general configuration of this special series.

All this without forgetting a key aspect in a motorcycle of this caliber: the electronic section. Electronic accelerator, IMU 6D inertial module, Bosch cornering ABS (3 levels), traction control (8 levels), lateral slip control (in braking and acceleration, 2 levels), anti-wheelie control (8 levels), launch control (3 levels), engine brake control (3 levels), semi-automatic up/down change and four driving modes, would make it up.

Previous SP and SP2 versions also equipped “machined aluminum adjustable footpegs, brushed aluminum fuel tank, carbon fiber rims, lightweight 520 chain, upgraded Brembo brakes and came standard with the Ducati Data Analyzer+ performance recording system. All of these features are likely to be present on the new Panigale V4 SP as well”they point out from the American media.

When will the Panigale V4 SP arrive?

As is usual every year, within the Ducati corporate organization, everything indicates that this Panigale V4 SP could be one of the stars of the well-known Ducati World Premiere. On the other hand, EICMA 2026 It would become the ideal setting to announce this and the rest of the new features that Borgo Panigale will surprise us with next fall, including all the key details of them, including the price to pay for them.
