The friends of the YouTube channel “44Teeth” recently published a video in which they show us the future KTM 990 RC R without camouflage, and almost showing what seems to be its final form for the next EICMA 2024. In addition, they had the possibility of going out to ride with it on the open road, giving us some clues about what we can expect and what we can’t from the new model from the Austrian firm.
Let us remember that the 990 RC R was announced by KTM last May, although in the first instance we could only see it under a cloak of zebra-like camouflage that left all those key details that would ultimately make up its final silhouette to our imagination.
Although it is true that we had previously been familiar with different test mules of the model, now we can get a more precise idea regarding the essential aspects that will end up making it up.
KTM 990 RC R: Halfway between an RS660 and a Panigale V2
This is one of the conclusions drawn by the person in charge of testing this 990 RC R in Austrian traffic. Its LC8c engine, approved according to the EURO5+ regulations, offers 103 Nm at 10,500 rpm and 128 HP of power. Undoubtedly in numerical terms it is between the two Italians of Noale and Borgo Panigale respectively. However, the character of the KTM is totally different from these.
Other details referred to by the protagonist of the test refer to the braking system or the gearbox, but also to the ergonomics shown by this 990 RC R, despite being developed on the basis of the current Duke.
To do this, the brand has equipped it with a specific handlebar, fuel tank and footpegs. Its good cornering stands out, although it makes it clear that it is far from being a radical sports car that cannot be enjoyed beyond the track.
KTM has worked on the chassis of its new model, including a redesigned steel chassis with greater weight at the front, improving steering response. For its part, the die-cast aluminum subframe makes the motorcycle easier to handle.
Likewise, the fully adjustable WP APEX inverted fork puts the ideal touch in dynamic terms. MotoGP-inspired aerodynamic elements provide stability when cornering and during braking, highlighting the bike’s competitive heritage.
The next episode about the KTM 990 RC R documentary is scheduled to be released on November 8. This exclusive content gives viewers a rare glimpse into the fast-paced world of the Austrian factory and what it takes to turn an idea into reality. You can see the other two episodes on its official YouTube channel.
