With more than 20 years of experience as a pioneer in electric motorcycle technology, Zero Motorcycles takes a new step in the development of electric mobility on two wheels with the arrival of level 3 direct current (DC) fast charging, a technology currently under development by the company’s engineering team.
Fast charging will take the Zero range to another level
Currently under development by the Zero engineering team, the new CCS port and the fast charging module will be available on all new Zero motorcycles in the Street and Dual Sport ranges during 2027. The system is being designed to be retrofitted as an accessory on all motorcycles in the S and DS ranges from model year 2022.

For Zero, this advancement is not limited to simply faster charging. It is about making next-generation charging technology accessible throughout the entire life cycle of the motorcycle. Pierre-Martin Bos, CEO of Zero Motorcycles, explained following the announcement: “DC fast charging is an important advantage in facilitating the transition to electric mobility and can help bring more users closer to Zero.”
“In addition, it is a feature that some of our customers have been asking for for some time, and we have listened to them. We did not want this technology to be available only in future Zero models. We also wanted thousands of current owners to be able to benefit from it and thus improve the performance and value of their motorcycles.”

“That is why we will offer the CCS port and the direct current fast charging module as accessories for compatible models from 2022 onwards.” Furthermore, the manager adds: “We believe the time is right to take this step. The direct current fast charging network continues to grow in Europe and North America, making long-distance travel increasingly easier and offering motorists greater freedom to go further by reducing recharging times.”
Fast charging in less than 30 minutes
Zero already allows the standard charging power to be expanded by an additional 6 kW up to 12.6 kW in certain models of the Dual Sport and Street ranges through the Rapid Charge system, available for purchase and installation through the Zero dealer network. This Level 2 charging solution, which complements the motorcycle’s integrated charger, allows you to reduce the usual time needed to go from 20 to 80% battery capacity to less than 45 minutes.

The incorporation of level 3 DC or DC fast charging will further reduce these times. According to the specifications currently provided by Zero, S and DS models with batteries of up to 17.3 kWh will be able to go from 20 to 80% charge in less than 30 minutes. As development progresses, the company will later communicate all the details related to compatible models.
Also those requirements necessary to adapt existing motorcycles, prices, availability and definitive specifications of the charging system. More information and details about Zero Motorcycles fast charging can be found on their official website or by visiting your nearest authorized dealer.
