The Passedthe first Ducati designed by Massimo Tamburini, has today become a cult motorcycle for many lovers of the brand. Although in its commercial stage it was not what one would call a sales success, it is currently beginning to be quoted with rising prices given the few units of the model that were manufactured, between 1986 and 1992, under three different versions: Paso 750, Paso 906 and 907 IE (electronic initiation).
Ducati Paso 2026: A deserved reissue
Now that we live in the time of reissues, when all brands pull the wild card of nostalgia for the development of new models (the same ones that reinterpret old glories of the past), the well-known Oberdan Bezzi urges Ducati to reissue its iconic Paso. Furthermore, he does so with not only stylistic arguments, but also explanatory ones, listing the reasons why it would be a great idea to be adopted by the centenary Borgo Panigale brand.
To begin with, according to Obiboi himself, “that the DUCATI SUPERSPORT 950 was a commercial failure (something easily foreseeable, by the way) is a fact, so its discontinuation was inevitable, which, however, objectively leaves an unfilled niche in the DUCATI range.” The Italian starts off strong with his demands, although here one might wonder whether or not what was until now the Sport Turismo of the brand has really been a sales fiasco.
In any case, that is not what we come to debate here and now. The idea of a new Ducati Paso appeals to anyone who feels the slightest attraction to the transalpine brand’s motorcycles. Even more so if, as Bezzi’s recent virtual rendering shows us, the philosophy of the original concept was kept intact. This means including, among others, Aero type fibers like then. Also a front dominated by a dome that is part of the front fairing and also comes painted in the same color.
Of course, the characteristic aerodynamic rearview mirrors anchored to the side of the front “camoto” itself or those side gills in the purest Ferrari style from the late 1980s cannot be missing. Bezzi’s design culminates with a pair of silencers covered by black covers, although for the occasion both would come out from the same side and would be in an overlapping position.
Other small details such as the front air intake, covered by the typical metal mesh of the 1986 Paso, or a passenger handle very similar to that of the original model, complete the meticulous design work carried out by Obiboi. Returning to the plot level, the latter assesses the importance of a new Paso within the current Ducati range.
He himself explains that it would be intended for “those who can’t stand gigantic Crossovers don’t want a Maxienduro, much less a resistant Streetfighter or Superbike”making it known that in order to meet their current demands, these “They should look elsewhere, since they will not find a product that meets their needs in the manufacturer’s price list.” Does anyone else identify?
Likewise, it reminds us that a new invoice Paso should be a motorcycle “resistant, but also suitable for medium-distance trips and, why not, for daily use, as well as for Sunday outings”. Again, referring to the model that until now covered this gap, he alludes: “Technically, the SUPERSPORT was a bike that could certainly boast these features, but an unfortunate aesthetic and a “vague” positioning between too sporty and not enough touring denied it success.”
Finally, he explains to us clearly and concisely what the purpose of such a reissue would be: “The new PASO (just PASO, without other acronyms) aims to be the motorcycle equivalent of a luxury coupe, high-performance and safe, designed for the road and not for the track, aesthetically aggressive but elegant, with a comfortable riding position but still that of a high-performance motorcycle, a true GT in short!”
Currently, Ducati could consider the idea of launching a mount with these characteristics thanks, among other things, to having its new 890 cc V2 engine already installed in the recent Multistrada V2, Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2. A mechanism that currently offers up to 120 HP, more than enough power to easily move a mount with the characteristics of the future Paso. So we only have one thing left to say: Raise your hand who endorses this petition!
