On more than one occasion we have talked about Extreme E as an innovative and interesting competition. Its electric vehicles had more than interesting capabilities, the format was dynamic and there was gender equality on the grid. However, it seems that it is the time to evolve and leave electricity behind. While the current market is still aiming for full electrification, this test looks at what could be the fuel of the future. The Extreme H with hydrogen as a protagonist to establish new foundations.
The new competition will start in April 2025 and aims to continue in that line of respect for the environment and zero net emissions. The fact that Extreme E was fully electric and held in remote locations was already a challenge and even presented some problems. Hydrogen could be the solution and would also give it a differentiating touch. Not to mention that it would help promote the use of said fuel and to expand its infrastructure. This is a new line from Electric 360 (E360), the creators of Formula E, Extreme E and E1.
It is still early to talk about details, but the information about the vehicles that will run the Extreme H is already known. All the teams will be based on the Pioneer 25a prototype that has a 75 kW hydrogen fuel cell that acts as a power generator for the electrical system. Because the vehicle maintains similar shapes and has a 550 hp engine. It is used to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds despite weighing 2,200 kg.
Each team will have a common package of standardized parts and they will be able to redesign the bodywork and optics of their vehicles to a certain extent. It seems that in the new Extreme H all the teams that competed in the Extreme E will be maintained, having to adapt to the new technologies. It also seems that the format will be very similar, with Ten rounds spread across five locationsThe first will remain in Saudi Arabia and then it seems that it will pass through Europe and end in the United States, something that is happening for the first time.
