Goodman HDS 1200 from 1992

If we ask you if you’ve ever heard of the Goodman HDS 1200, you might say yes. Seeing those lines may sound familiar to you, and the name, if you’ve seen Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, too, but chances are you’ve never seen this peculiar bike that also has a rather striking history.

And although it may not seem like it at first glance, this bike is directly related to the Velocette. It is a blood relationship, and the creator of the brand and the bike, Simon Goodman, was the grandson of the founder of the legendary Velocette brand.

The fact is that in the nineties he decided to get involved in a project that ended up culminating in the motorcycle you see, the Goodman HDS 1200. A peculiar creation of which there were only a total of 17 units, and which was a rather striking mix because the typical British-style chassis was fitted with Harley-Davidson Sporter 1200 engines.

This is a very special creation, and shortly after this Goodman HDS 1200 Harley was created, it stopped supplying Sportster engines to be mounted on other bikes, and that gives added value to a bike that despite everything had its own personality. In addition, it had quality components. Marzocchi forks, Brembo brake master cylinder and calipers, magnesium wheels, Koni rear shock absorbers and other top-level elements.

The Goodman HDS 1200 was not a cheap bike

As we say, a very special bike that was sold in 1992 for 17,000 dollars at the time. At the current exchange rate we would be talking about 15,600 euros to which we would have to add the inflation of all these years, so today we would be talking about a high-end bike and destined for the privileged.

Top-level elements were part of the identity of such a peculiar motorcycle

In recent times, some units have been sold for various prices and the detailed photos belong to those previous sales. But on this occasion, this unit sold through Facebook Market Place was for sale for $20,000. The unit has only traveled 1,800 miles, so it is actually almost unused and aesthetically seems to be well preserved despite its 32 years. Of course, it is in Oklahoma, United States…
