Dreams are meant to be fulfilled and this Honda CB750F Super Sport “Montjuïc Special” is the true reflection of this statement. If not, tell its owner and creator, Luis M. Etchenique who spent decades devising a way to build a replica of the Honda RCB that participated in the famous 24 Hours of Montjuïc, in its 1976 edition.
So Stan Woods and Charlie Williams They took first place in the demanding Barcelona test. That weekend in July, in the second round of the newly launched European Endurance Championship, would become a source of inspiration for Etchenique. But above all the Honda 941, which finally traveled 747 turns at an average of 117,983 km/h to be able to win the first place in the box.
Honda CB750F Super Sport “Montjuïc Special”: A dream come true
As Luis M. Etchenique himself explains to the Bike Bound team, referring to that edition to which he attended as a mere spectator: “The extremely hot Barcelona summer of that year forced the Honda of Great Britain (Stan Woods/Charlie Williams) and Honda of France (Jean Claude Chemarin/Christian Leon) teams to remove the fairings from the machines to allow for improved cooling, very necessary.”
Concludes: “You could see all the details, the mechanisms, the internal components. I remember being in the pits… Amazed by the pure performance and engineering.” From that moment on, Luis always had this project in mind, even after moving to the US, where he finally found an ideal specimen for the preparation of his dreams. About this, Luis comments:
“I promised myself that one day I would build a bike that had a similar feeling; a motorcycle in which you could see the engine, the carburetors, the exhaust, its innards and its soul.”
To do this, he used a 1979 Honda CB750F Super Sport that had spent many years stored in a Boston garage since the late 90s. Among the main elements that make up this Honda CB750F Super Sport “Montjuïc Special”, it is worth highlighting:
- RCB Back Section
- Shorai Lithium Ion Battery
- Custom 4 into 2 exhaust system
- Custom Under Seat Junction Box
- Tarozzi fork support
- Honda red livery
- 70s resistance style dual headlights
- Completely rebuilt engine
- Original Comstar wheels
- Custom instrument cluster with tachometer from a ’76 CB750F Super Sport, mounted on an aluminum panel
- Rebuilt brakes
Although the power has not been increased compared to the standard specifications, some 77 hpthe weight has been reduced considerably, making this CB750F Super Sport “Montjuïc Special” a lighter and more manageable motorcycle.
Lastly, mention that wherever he goes he “keeps an eye.” In addition, he has won awards such as Grand Marshal’s Award in the 2023 Riding into History Vintage Motorcycle Concours d’Elegance, and the award Best in Class Award in 2024.
