When Honda let us know, for the first time, what the arrival of its new V3R engine with electric compressor to its future range of models would mean in general terms, the most purists never imagined that it could power an emblem of the brand such as the Africa Twin. However, after the latest news published about the possible uses of this technology, this possibility is becoming increasingly louder.
The Africa Twin could become the “Africa Trin”
It may even sound comical, but it is more than likely that the legendary Africa Twin will abandon its current mechanical configuration in favor of that offered by the technological Honda V3R engine with an electric compressor. In its 2026 version, the charismatic ADV from the Japanese firm uses the well-known and robust and efficient 8-valve, 1,084 cc parallel twin engine.
With internal dimensions of 92 mm diameter and 81.5 mm stroke, the compression ratio is 10.5:1. The final result, in performance terms, translates into an approved power of 75 kW (100 HP) at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 112 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The brand declares an average consumption of 4.9 l/100 km (20.5 km/l) in both the manual and DCT versions.
That said, if what has just been confirmed in some leading international media ends up being fulfilled, it is very likely that the Africa Twin 2027 will reduce its displacement up to 900 cc and instead of a parallel technical architecture you now have a configuration V3 at 75 degreesliquid cooling and the addition of an electronically controlled compressor.
The objective reasons for the change
There is no doubt that Honda has spent years researching and developing new technologies with which to remain at the forefront of the two-wheeled sector.
