We are not very clear what the reasons for Indian Motorcycle have decided to discontinue his well -known FTR. The truth is that, for some time, several rumors had been generated that pointed to this fateful outcome. Something that has confirmed Polaris Industries, owner of the Yankee firm, in its recent accounts report referring to the 4th quarter of the past 2024: “The company realized certain costs associated with the closure of the FTR product line from the room from the room quarter of 2024 ”.
A sad freshe of the FTR
There are not many motorcycles in the current market with the personality and exotism level offered by Indian FTR in any of its versions. Born under the acronym FTR 1200 in the 2019 season, its design is inspired by the Indian FTR750, the queen of ovals. This, with 101 victories in 135 races, said goodbye to the past 2024 after the change of regulation within the American Flat Track.
Perhaps the plans that Indian had for this motorcycle did not finally come to fruition. While initially it was speculated that the model would be developed on a modular platform, we have only been able to enjoy the standard model and some versions equipped with equipment and special finishes.
At the technical level, the FTR uses a engine a 60º V at 60º, dohc 8 valves and 1,203 cc with 6 -speed change, 123 hp at 8,250 rpm, 120 nm at 6,000 rpm, mikuni electronic injection, balanced axis and cut to 9,500 rpm. This is integrated into the Chassis/Multitubular Steel chassis with “seen” aluminum subchassis.
The model has given rise to really interesting versions such as the rally or the FTR R Carbon. The latter with improvements in part cycle and electronic that make the driving experience in every way. The model has also had special level editions such as Stealth Gray, with only 150 copies for everyone, or the most recent FTR X 100% R Carbon, with a specific decoration.
Now it is time to ask what are the future plans of Indian and if in these there is the possibility of a natural substitute for its FTR. Currently, the range of motors of the Yankee firm does not have any option of similar benefits, which meets the new Euro5+, so everything indicates that at the moment there will be no replacement, at least in the short term.
