Asian automotive giant BYD has more than 25 years of experience in the sector. It is currently a key player in the development of the Nerva EXE, both as the manufacturer of the LFP (lithium-iron phosphate) batteries that the model is equipped with, as well as in the assembly of the scooter itself and as an engineering partner of the Spanish firm.
Although last May the brand put an end to the rumour about its foray into the 2-wheel market, now it seems that the tables have turned and it could indeed enter the EV segment. Moreover, it could do so with a high-performance and efficient e-scooter, as confirmed by our colleagues at Motorrad Online, who have also leaked the first images of the design of the possible model.
BYD: pioneer in the field of batteries
Perhaps this technical aspect is where the key to what could be one of the best electric scooters on the market lies. BYD is one of the leaders in lithium battery manufacturing, and is part of projects with which it shares values and objectives, as is the case with NerveIt is also responsible for manufacturing the Scorpio X1 at its facilities in Singapore, so it is not new to the two-wheeled sector.
Now, What could BYD offer us with a new electric scooter model? If we take a closer look at the images we are showing you today, we can draw some clear conclusions, especially in terms of technology and design. For example, it would be equipped with a centrally positioned engine with a belt as a transmission element between it and the rear axle.
With a final power around 25-35 HPthe BYD model could be included within the segment of conventional scooters with an average displacement between 250 and 350 cc. Likewise, it would have a battery pack that would give it a capacity in a maximum range located between 9 and 12 kWh. All this combined with a chassis where the 15 and 14 inch wheels stand out, front and rear respectively. Also an inverted front fork and a pair of shock absorbers on the rear axle.
Braking should at least be provided by two front brake discs, although in these first images we can only see the anchoring of the future calipers, with two units attached to the sides of the front wheel. Finally, we do not know if both the chassis and the other elements that make up the main structure of the BYD electric scooter would be made of steel or aluminum.
Other details worth mentioning in these sketches are, for example, the use of a wide two-level seat, extensive handle and rear luggage rack, powerful front lighting equipment or an imposing right-hand control cluster, loaded with buttons to control all the technological functions that this e-scooter is equipped with. These include the front and rear camera, typical of many models. premium in the Chinese market.
What is clear is that these sketches are much more than just images, and that it is very likely that they will come to fruition sooner rather than later. Initially, for the local market, although a little later the model could be marketed in Europe and other parts of the world.
