Johann Zarco returns to competition at the next Aragon GP

He Castrol Honda LCR has announced that Johann Zarco will return to competition at the Michelin Grand Prix of Aragon, as long as you pass the mandatory medical examination on the circuit. This will be his first appearance since the Catalan GP held last May, the same scene where Álex Márquez collided with the rear of Pedro Acosta’s motorcycle.

The disaster flew over Barcelona

After that fateful accident, in the hours that followed, Zarco uploaded some posts to his main social networks to, mainly, let his followers know that, despite the injury, he was in good spirits and eager to return. Then the French pilot commented:

“Hello everyone. We are still waiting for the test results. I have the neck brace, but it bothers me more than anything else.”. Regarding his injury he clarified: “Mainly, it’s the knee, the ligaments have given way, but the femur is not broken. Small fracture at the bottom of the fibula, outside the left ankle.”

He concluded by stating: “Just to reassure you, anyway: more fear than harm, let’s say.”. In the days after his accident, Zarco and his medical team opted for non-surgical treatment, with September as the initially planned date for his return. However, his recovery has improved in recent weeks, which has allowed his return to be brought forward.

A Johann Zarco with recovered strength

In recent weeks, Zarco has progressively increased his workload, riding both a supermoto and a Honda CBR1000RR as part of his rehabilitation. After training, Zarco shared his feelings on social networks: “Last week I got back on the bike. I rode a Supermotard to have a more comfortable position and, little by little, test my knee while riding.”

He went on to explain that “It’s been really nice to do some laps and train my body specifically for riding. I’m concentrating on doing things the right way and controlling the intensity of riding, because a little bit of pain can set in and the knee can swell again, which is normal when you’re recovering from an injury.”

He concluded by stating that “The knee needs to be trained and stimulated gradually, but carefully managing swelling is essential to ensure the healing process progresses properly.” Now, after making steady progress in his recovery, he has received the all-clear and will travel to Aragon to undergo the mandatory medical evaluations at the circuit.

If he passes them, the Frenchman will return to competition, reuniting with the Castrol Honda LCR and resuming his work on the track. Both Johann Zarco and the Castrol Honda LCR team “They look forward to meeting again at the Aragon Grand Prix and continuing their work together on the track”they conclude in the official statement issued by the team where the French driver plays.
