The Borgo Panigale brand continues to rely on 90° V2 engines, characteristic of its most iconic motorcycles. With this new 890 cc V2 and a record weight of 54.5 kg, Ducati redefines the concept of a light and efficient engine.
The configuration of the new twin-cylinder engine offers adaptable performance for various models, with 120 and 115 hp versions that maximize versatility in use. The innovative variable valve timing (IVT) system, along with advanced treatments and optimized materials, elevates performance and control in any situation.
This is the new Ducati V2 engine that the next generation of motorcycles will use
Modern, lightweight design for maximum enjoyment
Weighing significantly less than its predecessors, Ducati’s V2 features improvements in design and performance. The 90° V configuration provides stability without the need for a counterbalance axle, reducing vibrations and allowing for a smooth driving experience.
Its Euro 5+ approval and its light and compact structure have been designed not only to optimize the experience on the road, but also to facilitate incorporation into different motorcycles.
Two versions for a wide range of uses
The new V2 engine will be available in two power configurations, allowing it to be used in a variety of Ducati models. The 120 hp sports version has an optional racing exhaust, which increases power to 126 hp and increases torque to 98 Nm. On the other hand, the 115 hp version includes a more powerful alternator to respond to greater electrical demands and a transmission adjusted to improve performance in high load conditions.
Innovation in valve control
IVT technology allows you to adjust the opening time of the intake valves to maximize power and smooth torque delivery at low and medium revolutions. With an adjustment range of 52° thanks to a phase shifter, the system ensures continuous performance and optimal acceleration response.
Furthermore, more than 70% of the maximum torque is available from 3,000 rpm, making this engine a model of efficiency and strength in all situations.
Optimization for greater performance and efficiency
The engine intake ducts feature a DLC treatment on the rocker arm and hollow valves, offering weight savings and improved efficiency. The power system includes a 52 mm throttle body, with a ride-by-wire system that adjusts the torque for each gear according to demand, offering up to four power modes.
Durability and low maintenance
The new V2 engine is designed to minimize wear and reduce maintenance. Oil changes are scheduled every 15,000 km and valve settings are reviewed every 30,000 km, maintaining low maintenance costs and durability. In addition, it incorporates a water-oil heat exchanger to eliminate the oil radiator, which reduces the size and weight of the engine, improving its aesthetics.
Ducati Quick Shift and latest generation technology
The Ducati Quick Shift 2.0 system, as on the Panigale V4, allows precise gear changes without interruptions, and the 8-disc slipper clutch ensures stability during decelerations and sudden braking. Ducati also announces a lower power version, aimed at motorcycles for drivers with an A2 license, opening the doors to a greater number of users.
The first models equipped with the new V2 engine will be presented on November 5 at the Ducati World Première event, showing this cutting-edge technology applied to the brand’s new creations.
