Moto Lignea is the first wooden electric motorcycle. It is approved and is the result of a crazy pandemic idea

If only a decade ago you had told us that an Italian company called Lignea Motorcycleor by any other name, was going to patent and approve a motorcycle powered by electricity and made mostly of wood, the less we would have laughed.

However, Diego Alfani, the ideologue of this project, has taken it very seriously, to the point that it is now possible to reserve a copy of his innovative frame after paying 300 euros.

This curious story, which we have learned recently, has its origins in the last COVID-19 pandemic, when Alfani gave shape to the initial idea: Design and manufacture “the motorcycle born from wood and the silence of the forests”.

This is how they define it on the official Moto Lignea website, and to tell the truth, they are not even remotely right, taking into account the material from which its main structure is made.

Moto Lignea: From the forests to the jungle of urban traffic!

One of the most relevant aspects of this electric mount is precisely the material that the brand uses for its manufacture, the okume wood. This is the same one used in the naval industry. According to a company specialized in its marketing “Okume wood is a type of wood native to Central Africa, located mainly in countries such as Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Its main use is distinguished in sheets and plywood boards.”

However, the Moto Lignea also uses a series of standard components for its assembly. The cycle part stands out for its Offroad focus, equipping 19” radial wheels shod with knobby tires in sizes 70/100/19. For its part, the suspensions are made up of a hydraulic monoshock along with an inverted lowering fork of 42 mm and 203 mm of travel.

The braking is by Magura, with discs on both axles and a four-piston caliper anchored in the front. The set, approved within the L1e category (electric moped), is driven by a hub motor installed on the rear wheel with a maximum power of 3,000 watts lithium battery 54 V and 32 Ah, with 1,700 Wh capacityannounces a autonomy of 60 kilometersbeing able to reach up to 100 km if we consider getting the optional package that consists of two batteries.

Regarding the equipment that the Moto Lignea has, we highlight the use of an LCD instrument panel, from which we can select one of the three driving modes available: Soft, Normal and Sport.

Other details such as the Full-LED lighting or the license plate holder and the Barracuda mirrors are within the standard equipment that is included in the final price, 6,990 euros.

Moto Lignea: This is the first wooden electric motorcycle approved for circulation

From Moto Lignea they already warn that this is just the beginning, since their plans involve launching a variant equivalent to a standard 125 cc on the market. Maintaining the same concept, electric motorcycle made of wood, the Italian firm aims to become a pioneer and reference within the trend ecofriendly so fashionable these days.
