Until the 2027 MotoGP season starts and we reach the first Q2 in Thailand, we will not know if teams and riders are showing their full potential. Therefore, everything that has been seen and filtered from Austria on the occasion of the collective and official tests, in which some have been able to test the 850 of the next campaign and all the Pirelli tires, is very relative.
Even so, as is evident, there are data that have emerged and that have attracted attention, on a day in which, in addition, some of those who will be riders in 2027 got on the MotoGP. There were many absences, because practically all the drivers who change brands for the next campaign did not participate. In reality, only one of those who will do it did have the opportunity: we are talking about Pedro Acosta.
To the list of participants we must add, of those who will not continue in MotoGP, Franco Morbidelli and Jack Miller who, by continuing to be linked to Ducati and Yamaha respectively in WSBK, had the opportunity to work and, also, Senna Agius and Izan Guevara who were present although riding with the 1,000 limited in power.
As we say, since they are not open tests, a series of times have been leaked that, although real, would not offer reliable details of the situation to be able to draw conclusions. What is evident is that in these tables, Diogo Moreira and the Honda appear in first position and not for a short time, since in theory he stopped the clock at 1:28.4, followed by Aldeguer with Ducati in 1:28.7, and with Acosta in 1:28.9.
The 2027 MotoGP will not be slower, at least not by one lap
And be careful, the most interesting thing about these times is not so much in who and how, but also that they allow us to more directly compare the times with those of the current MotoGP. And it can already be said that the change will not mean anything, at least in fast lap times. And this past weekend, Martín took pole in 1:27.917 (faster than Moreira) but Ogura, fifth, lapped in 1:28.450, that is, the same time as Diogo.
So, regardless of whether Márquez rode a lot or a little and also with discreet times, that no Yamaha was among the best, that Viñales has tested himself again or that KTM gave Acosta information that could lead to Ducati, the truth is that even with a change in regulations, less displacement, without the riders knowing the bike, with new tires and with bikes still evolving, the times are similar.
This makes it clear that the change that sought greater safety has not hit the nail on the head, because in the case that, in addition, these motorcycles accelerate less, which is probably not the case because most of the power does not enter in the first stages of acceleration, and they run somewhat less (which will be where theoretically there is more difference), it implies that the speed through corners has not decreased but may even have increased.
