Some students have transformed a Fireblade into an electric motorcycle … and they want to run in Le Mans!

Presented last April, the SIGMA REGEN LMT01a fully functional electric motorcycle, is the result of the work of a group of students from the Sigma Clermont School of Engineering located in France. And they aspire, among other things, to participate in the 24 hours of Le Mans of 2029.

We talked about a concept based on what was once a Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, something that for many can be a full-fledged sacrilege, although the merit of its creators and the hard work after this project is undoubted.

SIGMA REGEN LMT01: A student dream that could make history

On April 20, the Sigma Regen LMT01 gave a demonstration turn to the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans, just before the legendary motorcycling test. Then, the team in charge of this ambitious project commented on their social networks after the event:

Last Saturday, 20 minutes before the great start of 24h motorcycles, we had the opportunity to make a demonstration tour of our new prototype: LMT01. A dream opportunity for all students, to show the finished work and raise awareness of the project.

In addition, they had the collaboration of the Swiss pilot Sebastien Suchetthe one chosen to put the controls of the Sigma Regen LMT01 in a moment of so much relevance for the team.

Now, as we have known for the teammates Down, the Sigma Regen LMT01 has begun a background race to participate in the 24 of Le Mans 2029. However, to achieve this milestone they await them a cobbled path where, among other things, they need to raise a figure close to the million euros. With this amount they could take a top -level technical team, as well as the necessary professionals to address an adventure of this magnitude.

On the other hand, the creators of the Sigma Regen LMT01 must solve other pitfalls related to the competition itself, such as the aspect of the reposses. Since this concept is driven by electricity, the equipment already works on a rapid battery change system. In addition, they seek to find the most light replacement kit possible, to facilitate the maneuver at the time of each intervention.

SIGMA REGEN LMT01: This is the electric prototype that aims to participate in the 24 of Le Mans 2029

Sylvain Chalat, Sigma professor, commented on this: “The objective is to get the lighter battery as possible, to recharge very fast and change with the least possible frequency. It is the same problem as with electric vehicles: how many kilometers can you travel?” Also Alexis Boson, former Sigma alumnus and project leader, has said:

“Automobilism currently has a bad image, since several aspects pose problems. There is the engine, but also the consumption of wear pieces such as tires and brake pads, which generate a lot of contamination. It is necessary to explore several ways to guarantee the continuity of the sport.”

We do not know if they will finally achieve their goal, but what there is no doubt is that the creators of this sigma regen LMT01 can make history within the world of competition.
