Suzuki prepares a tilting tricycle with the soul of a Burgman and the face of a 4×4 Jimny

In May 2023 the news broke that Suzuki was most likely working on the design of a new tricycle. Some images related to the registration of patents in the Australian office, by the brand, and in reference to said vehicle, made us participate in this new engineering adventure of the Hamamatsu firm.

Then the possibility was considered that we were facing the development of a tilting tricycle. Technically, everything indicated that we were talking about a three-wheeled scooter, due in large part to the arrangement of the engine and CVT transmission, both integrated into the rear swingarm. Likewise, it was also obvious that the driving position had nothing to do with the models that were marketed at that time.

Suzuki’s tricycle could be almost ready

Once again it has been Ben Purvis, from Cycle World, who offers us new data and technical aspects regarding this Suzuki tricycle. To begin with, its main tubular steel structure. The suspensions include a conventional wishbone system and shock absorbers at the front. At the rear there is a single shock absorber, anchored directly to the engine-swingarm assembly, which acts independently.

The rendering of this tricycle also offers us other curious details, such as using wheels and tires in size 100/80-12, from a Burgman Street 125EX. From this it also inherits both the mechanics and the CVT automatic transmission system. Starting from this base, the controls for both the accelerator and the brakes are anchored in the same place as a conventional scooter.

Although it would be approved for two seats, the pronounced change in height between the driver and passenger seats is curious. Just behind the latter we find the mechanical part fully visible, with an exhaust system emerging directly from the side. On the contrary, to locate the fuel tank filler cap we must look at the pilot’s crotch.

Right in the middle of it, and anchored to the front of the main seat, the aforementioned filling mouth can be seen from a top view. Finally, at the level of finishes, we agree with Purvis’ opinion when he comments: “Suzuki designers have gone to great lengths, creating a front that is reminiscent of the Jimny 4×4 of the same brand, with two headlights, flanked by round turn signals and separated by a five-slot grille.”

Concludes: “It also has matching taillights, as well as rear-view mirrors, indicating its suitability for road use.” Having said all this, there is only one question to ask: Will Suzuki surprise us at EICMA 2025 with the launch of a prototype related to this tricycle?… We will clear up the doubts very soon.
