For months now there has been talk about the launch of an access model within the current range of Harley-Davidson. In fact, the brand has not hidden its intention to call it commercially under the acronym Sprint 440. And it is no coincidence that it has chosen this name, rather a tribute to the original Sprint from the 1960s manufactured by Aermacchi, when the Italian firm was under the command of the North American company.
Sprint 440: a commercial lifesaver
This statement may seem exaggerated and even illogical. However, the Sprint 440 arrives with this clear intention. And no, we are not saying it, the brand itself presented its latest strategic plan last May, “Back to the Bricks”, with which they intend, among other things, to save the company from financial disaster. Furthermore, doing so by returning to its origins, those who elevated it to the place it occupies today within the two-wheeled sector.
To do this, they will recover acronyms as iconic for their followers as those of Sportster or Sprint. It is the latter that seems to be about to come out of the oven, as Harley-Davidson Spain has announced in one of its recent publications: “A new generation is coming. The new Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 is about to arrive. Get ready: your road enters FUN mode”they explain briefly.
Along with the statement, three teaser images in which the main outlines of the silhouette of its new model are barely revealed. Also a link to its official website so we can register before the launch where we can also find a small description of its new Sprint 440:
“Light, agile and designed to make your daily trips more fun,” They conclude: “Harley-Davidson Sprint™ 440 brings a whole new energy to the motorcycle experience. Created for the city, weekend getaways and whatever plans you fancy in between. Fill out the form below to stay up to date with the latest news.”
What we can expect
As we have been talking about for the last year, the idea that the brand clings to is to be able to offer a model with a price of less than 6,000 euros. To be honest, we have serious doubts that the new Sprint 440 will end up being marketed for such a tight price. In any case, last summer, who until then was the company’s executive director, Jochen Zeitzconfirmed in this regard:
“Inspired by our heritage and the spirit of the iconic Harley-Davidson Sprint motorcycle, this new bike embodies boldness, irreverence and fun, capturing the rebellious energy that defines the Harley-Davidson experience. With its launch planned for 2026 and its introduction to our global dealer network in October, I am pleased to announce that our entry price is under $6,000.”
That said, at a mechanical level it is expected that the block currently mounted on the According to official figures, it develops 27 HP at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 38 Nm at 4,000 revolutions.
This would be embedded in a tubular steel chassis supported by 19” wheels at the front and 16” at the rear. Other notable elements of its chassis would be, for example, a suspension system composed of a long-travel inverted front fork and a pair of lateral shock absorbers at the rear. This configuration would in turn help to lower the seat height, also offering a driving position more like the chopper style of the brand’s classic models.
As for braking, a disc is expected on each axle, 320 mm at the front and 230 mm at the rear. Finally, mention the circular headlight with a classic design, wide handlebars and a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, all of them equipment elements that could end up being part of the final packaging of the expected SP440 Sprint.
