During last week at EICMA we have learned about some models that will arrive at dealerships in the coming months. But also the motorcycles that will be part of the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup, the championship that will share the track with MotoGP in a total of six Grand Prix.
Although there are details such as the number of teams and riders that are not yet confirmed (it is expected that there will be between 6 and 8 teams and, therefore, between 12 and 16 riders), what is officially known are the performance of the Harley-Davidson baggers, in addition to the official logo of the championship.
Regarding the official motorcycle of the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup, we are looking at a competition Road Glide. And that is something that can be seen with the naked eye in the photos or by seeing the motorcycles live, but especially when it comes to data.
And these two-wheeled elephants, which will weigh 280 kg, will have a power above 200 HP and are expected to reach speeds above 300 kilometers per hour. Some terrifying figures for motorcycles that, in addition, are going to ride precisely on some of the fastest tracks in the MotoGP World Championship.
Instead of choosing twistier tracks none other than COTA, Mugello, Assen, Silverstone, MotorLand and RedBull Ring are the six tracks where double races will be competed each weekend. That is, six events and a total of twelve races in a competition, which, although it can be exciting, raises some doubts in advance regarding safety.
And we are looking at motorcycles with power close to an SBK, but with a weight that is practically 120 kg above these. A mixture of speed and weight that makes them complicated motorcycles to ride, with overwhelming inertia and that is far from the European philosophy of light and fast, in addition to colliding with the 2027 regulations for MotoGP, where lower speed on the straight is sought with the new regulations.
As for the teams and unlike what was happening in MotoGP, there are already three confirmed and they come from outside the championship. For now the three teams confirmed in the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup are Saddlemen Racing (United States), Joe Rascal Racing (Australia) and Cecchini Racing. Now it remains to be seen which other teams will join and also the riders who will get on the bikes, since that could also be different from what we were used to with MotoE.
In any case, we will have to wait until the end of March for the first race and to know if the balance between spectacle and risk is correct. It will be the weekend of March 27 to 29 when, within the framework of the GP of the Americas, in Austin, the first edition of the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup begins.
