The new and expected BMW R 12 g/s is just around the corner, after the official announcement of the brand of its next official presentation on March 27 at 5:00 p.m., European schedule. A mount that arrives to delight those more traditional enduro lovers, which in the past the Bávara brand offered in the form of mythical models such as R 80 g/s of 1980, or later with the BMW HP2 Enduro portentosa 2005.
In any case, thanks to the German Motorrad online partners, always well communicated with the high -controls of BMW, such as its general director Markus Flascch, we already know the first brushstrokes of the model, but above all that we can expect from a motorcycle of this type within the current German range.
BMW r 12 g/s: simplicity and efficiency with retro enduro image
This is perhaps the best way to describe what we can expect from the new BMW R 12 g/s, a mount from which we knew the first details in the 2021 season when they were hunted, in the middle of the testing test, which at that time seemed to be the future R Ninenet Scrambler and Urban G/s of New Generation.
Subsequently, in March 2024, Markus Flasch revealed in an interview the future launch of a new and light GS, equipped with an air -cooled boxer engine, 21 -inch front tire and a new frame. This is precisely the BMW R 12 g/s that will finally be presented at just 48 hours.
From those statements it is confirmed that the new hardening model will use the well -cylinder and oil -refrigerated boxer engine, 1,170 ccwhich delivers 109 CV of power and a maximum torque of 115 nm. This is associated with a 6 -relationship gearbox. With a weight of 229 kilograms In the order of march (including the 17 liters of fuel that we can house in its deposit), the R 12 g/s should not have problems in reaching a peak speed near the 210 km/h.
It is rigorous that R 12 g/s equates a cycle part at the height of the expected, that is, primarily focused on the practice of offroad. This will have radial tires on both axes, 21 ”on the front, front inverted fork and a rear parallever system with central mono -and in the rear. With everything we should have about 200 mm travel both in front and behind.
This linked to the 860 mm to which the base of the seat is located in the pilot’s position, offers us a clear idea of BMW Motorrad’s intentions with the launch of its new r 12 g/s. All of the above will be combined with specific equipment, where we will have ABS system (probably disconnectable in its posterior wheel), double front disc or a TFT screen with navigation functions included.
However, in order to maintain a contained price and not distort the essence of the motorcycle, we believe that it will not have too many technological displays as if it has, for example the current R 1300 GS. In fact, everything points to a initial price around 17,000 eurosalthough this last data we will know in just two days, when BMW Motorrad shows us “in person” to its new r 12 g/s.
