Over the last few years, different preparations of the Suzuki GSX-R1100 have been on the web, but none as extreme and potent as this one. GSX1300R Slingshot Turbo-NOSnicknamed Pro Street 51 or simply PS 51, after the year of birth of its creator’s father Yohann “I” Kostrzewa. This one directs KOS’THORa preparation workshop located in the French region of Lorraine. There, together with his brother Alex, since 2009 they have been dedicated body and soul to everything that exudes some culture. Kustom.
At the same time, they shape motorcycles as special as the one we show you today, developed on the platform of a crashed GSX-R1100 from 1990. In fact, it is not the first preparation of this type that Yohann has embarked on in recent years. As he himself explains to his Bike Bound colleagues: “My first custom bike was a 1100 ZRX with a NOS (nitrous oxide) system, a real beast.”
Suzuki GSX1300R Slingshot Turbo-NOS in detail
Apparently our protagonist acquired two GSX-R1100 from a friend. After thinking about what to do with each one of them, the first one ended up becoming a “Yoshimura-style endurance racing bike (pictured below), with a Wiseco 1216 engine, racing carburetors, and endurance camshafts”as detailed in this detailed article. For the second copy Kostrzewa decided to up the ante and create a unique preparation.
Starting with its mechanics, a 1,300 cc block prepared by the well-known British specialist Dave Dunlopby Fast By Me Turbo Systems. In this case this GSX1300R Slingshot mounts a tGarrett GT2860. The propeller is embedded in a chassis from a 1989 GSX-R750 Slingshot. As its creator explains:“I decided to completely rebuild it as a Pro Street bike, keeping the original details.”
As if this were not enough, a NOS system (Nitrous Oxide System) was also installed, increasing the power between 25 and 100 HP depending on the pressure we apply. being able to overcome the 400 HP barrier by blowing at 2.3 bars. Currently Yohann’s GSX1300R Slingshot Turbo-NOS offers about 270 HP at a pressure of “only” 0.8 bars of pressure.
The rest of the modifications that this ambitious project has have focused on two essential aspects: On the one hand, improving the motor skills and handling of the motorcycle. On the other hand, maintain a classic aesthetic, showing off the unmistakable style features that this Gixxer Old School enjoys. To achieve this, they have included countless improvements and modifications, among which we can highlight:
- Inverted fork from a ’92 GSX-R750
- YSS rear shock
- Rims from a ’93 GSX-R1100
- Nology Spark Plug Wires
- GSXR 1100 swingarm lengthened by 16 cm
- Koyorad racing radiator
- Steering damper
- Slipper clutch system, etc.
In addition, the electrical installation of the motorcycle was completely done, and most of the hoses were replaced with others made of steel. In this regard, Yohann explains: “All hoses are braided stainless steel. I modified the fuel tank to have two separate high-flow lines to feed the fuel rail during normal operation, and a separate line for the fuel pump from the NOS kit.”
The final touch to this project was put by Loic Clément, in charge of painting the fairing kit that covers the silhouette of the GSX1300R Slingshot. Finally, Yohann is clear and concise when asked what it feels like to be at the controls of his powerful mechanical creature: “I’ve driven a lot of pretty powerful vehicles, as I said, I drive a 2018 ZX-10R on various circuits in Europe and I also have a Porsche 997 Turbo, but honestly, I’ve never experienced anything like it.”
