There are brands that are part of the history of Spanish motorcycling, and Bultaco occupies a privileged place among them. After years of uncertainty, failed projects and rumors about a possible return, the Catalan firm has taken the definitive step: it returns to the motorcycle market and is already finalizing the launch of its first model of this new stage.
The protagonist will be Bultaco Rally GT 300a small displacement trail bike that is already undergoing its final dynamic tests before reaching dealerships. The brand itself has shared the first official images on its social networks, showing the motorcycle rolling on the circuit of the Moto Club Vilobíin Girona, with a very special pilot at its command: Juan Bultódescendant of the founding family.
Obviously, the publication is much more than a simple preview. It is confirmation that the project has already left the development phase behind and is entering the final stretch before its commercialization.
Bultaco looks to the future without giving up its history
As we are telling you, the return of Bultaco It began to become official on August 2, when the brand recovered its public activity with a message that makes the philosophy of this new stage clear.
Now, the company assures that it does not intend to live solely on nostalgia or the enormous legacy left by models as emblematic as the Sherpa, Pursang, Border either Shrapnel. Its intention is to build a new range of motorcycles adapted to the current market, although maintaining the sporty and adventurous spirit that has always characterized the brand.
Bultaco confirmed that the GT 300 Rally It was already accumulating km in the first dynamic tests to refine its set-up before starting production. A few days later, new images taken in Vilobí arrived, where the firm explained that the model is already undergoing the latest development tests and that the announcement of the price, the available colors and the complete technical sheet is very close.
A trail that is very reminiscent of the Leonart Rally 300
The published photographs allow us to appreciate numerous details of the motorcycle and, at the same time, clear up one of the main unknowns. The design is practically identical to that of the Leonart Rally 300 presented this same year.
The similarity affects the steel perimeter chassis, the tank, the front optical assembly, the side covers, the spoked wheels and even a good part of the bodywork. The visible differences seem to be limited, for now, to the decoration, logos and some specific finishes of Bultaco.
It would not be strange if both shared the mechanical base. Although Bultaco has not yet made the technical sheet official, everything points to a 292 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder with a power close to the 28 hpa configuration compatible with the A2 card and very similar to that used by the Leonart Rally 300. We will have to wait for the final presentation to check if the Spanish brand introduces changes to the electronics, the set-up or part of the equipment.
The return of Bultaco It doesn’t exactly come overnight. The brand already starred in a notable rebirth in 2014, although then it opted for a completely different strategy based on electric mobility. That project left prototypes like the Rapitan and the Rapitan Sportwhich were never mass produced.
Later, the Jumpan electric bicycle with the spirit of a motorcycle and the urban moped Alberobut financial difficulties ended up leading to bankruptcy.
Since then, the name of Bultaco It had barely appeared associated with rumors and possible rescue operations that never materialized. Now, it seems that yes, the situation seems different. The brand itself already shows a practically finished model, carrying out real tests and promising to announce all the commercial details shortly.
It remains to be known the final price, the level of equipment and if the GT 300 Rally It will incorporate some differentiating element with respect to the motorcycle from which it is apparently inspired. What no longer admits of discussion is that one of the most emblematic brands of Spanish motorcycling officially returns to the road. And that is good news.
