On June 27, 1992, one of the last glass roofs that the Spaniards had in the Motorcycling World Cup was broken. That afternoon, Álex Crivillé achieved the first victory in the queen category of a Spanish pilot, then in the 500 category.
Only three other pilots, Alberto Puig, Carlos Checa and Sete Gibernau managed to savor what was the triumph over a rabid 500. And although “Crivi” was done with the title of the queen category in 1990 Spain was not, from far, the power of the queen category that has been for two decades.
And it is that Sete himself achieved more victories, already with the four times and with the queen category calling MotoGP before two titans arrived, such as Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo, and they began to make it usual for the Spanish anthem to sound at the end of the race. Then Marc Márquez arrived and continued to raise the number of victories, until Álex reached the 200 200 in the GP of Spain.
But between Crivillé and Álex Márquez, in addition to 198 victories in the queen category, there are 12 other pilots who have contributed their grain of sand to achieve it. Some have contributed to a victory, others with more, but all have been important to convert Spanish motorcycling into a power that every weekend with one or another pilot opts for victory.
The Italians are still the first on the list, but the streak of the Spanish pilots has made this difference shortened, although Italy has 290 for the moment.
