World Ducati Week achieves sustainable event distinction for another year

The World Ducati Week 2024 once again achieves certification as a sustainable event according to the international standard UNI ISO 20121. This is the fourth consecutive edition, demonstrating how an event that attracts tens of thousands of enthusiasts from around the world can represent an example of responsible and sustainable management in the two-wheeled scene.

Since its first edition, World Ducati Week has been the ideal setting for celebrating, in a context of genuine exchange and enthusiasm, the deep bond that unites the brand with its community of Ducati fans, made up not only of motorcycle enthusiasts but also of partners, suppliers, company employees and local representatives.

World Ducati Week 2024: Successful participation and environmental responsibility

More than 94,000 attendees from 86 different nationssharing a weekend of partying and fun that combined the passion for two wheels with the company’s commitment to social responsibility, environmental sustainability and the enhancement of the brand itself.

The certification milestone was achieved thanks to the joint commitment of Ducati, its employees and all parties involved in the construction and execution of the event, including the supply chain and the participants themselves. Together they implemented an organisational model that guaranteed balanced management from an economic, environmental and social point of view of each phase of the planning and execution of the event.

The certificate was issued following a multi-stage audit by the certification body: first on planning, to assess the sustainability principles envisaged; then on execution, to check that what was planned was actually put into practice during the event.

The principles that Ducati has adopted as a basis for defining the objectives and activities of the WDW include:

  • Promoting awareness of sustainability issues
  • Responsible management of environmental impact
  • Transparency in communication with partners and the authorities involved
  • Respect for human rights and the active participation of all stakeholders

World Ducati Week is designed to be inclusive and welcoming: it also offers access to non-Ducati motorcycle owners and provides free entry to participants from non-EU countries and minors, as well as specific services for people with disabilities and two children’s areas.

It promotes cultural exchange between participants from different countries through initiatives such as the International Village, a meeting point for Ducati fans, importers and Official Ducati Clubs from around the world. In the spirit of social responsibility, part of the proceeds from the cloakroom service at the Friday evening event will be donated to the ChiAma Anti-Violence Centre of the MondoDonna Onlus Association to support the fight against gender violence.

Ducati is committed to promoting its environmental and sustainability objectives in relation to the World Ducati Weekensuring that all stakeholders, including employees and external collaborators, were adequately informed and trained on these issues.

In fact, the staff involved received specific training to actively contribute to achieving the sustainability objectives. Furthermore, during the three days, greater awareness was promoted among participants through Ducati’s digital channels and specific signage on site.

In the planning and development phases of World Ducati Week, Ducati adopted sustainable practices to minimise the environmental impact, also dedicating itself to the promotion and enhancement of the territory that hosted the event. Among the various solutions employed, the use of sustainable mobility was promoted for staff, such as electric scooters and bicycles, and for participants, the distribution of water bottles in the welcome kit, to reduce the amount of plastic generated.

Eco-friendly shuttles were provided for participants to travel between the circuit and the Riviera towns, as well as test runs and entertainment activities to explore and enhance the surroundings. Biodegradable tableware and local produce were used at the catering points, while leftover food was donated to charities, thus also helping to reduce waste.

During all phases of World Ducati Week, Ducati adopted a transparent and clear approach in communicating with its stakeholders. Collaboration with regulatory bodies, authorities and institutions was based on transparency and mutual trust, thus ensuring an effective and constructive flow of communication. As confirmation of this principle, information on the sustainability results obtained during the event will be published in the World Ducati Week Sustainability Report and made available to interested parties.

Ducati considers respect for internationally recognised human rights to be an essential basis for all its business relationships. A commitment that is reflected above all in the organisation of a large-scale event such as WDW, during which Ducati is committed to ensuring respect for fundamental rights and the safety of all participants and workers involved, through, for example, security services and medical assistance. This also contributes to the aim of exceeding the expectations of participants and all stakeholders, actively involving them to create global connections, break down geographical boundaries and offer an unforgettable experience.
