“It’s never too late if happiness is good”they must be thinking about film specialists after knowing the decision of the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences to create a specific category, within the Oscar Awards, with which to give the recognition that this well -known guild deserves within the big screen. After several months of reflection, it seems that the entity has understood the relevance of the work that these people do in much of the films that are currently recorded.
Specialists will have their deserved prize … within three years
According to the statement issued by the Board of Governors of the Academy of Arts and Sciences, they announce “The creation of a Competitive Annual Academy award for achievements in specialist design, starting with the 100th edition of the Academy Awards for films released in 2027.”
We do not know very well about what foundations the decision to postpone to that date the premiere of the category where movie specialists will be rewarded. As explained by the executive director of the Academy, Bill Kramer: “Since the beginning of the cinema, the design of specialists has been an integral part of cinematographic realization.”
For her part, the president of the Academy, Janet Yangcomments: “We are proud to honor the innovative work of these technical and creative artists, and congratulate them for their commitment and dedication to reach this transcendental occasion.” The official statement also specifies that the rules of the category for eligibility and vote, for the inaugural prize, will be announced in 2027 together with the complete rules of the 100th edition of the Academy Awards.
The details of the award delivery will be determined by the Board of Governors of the Academy and the Executive Leadership on a future date. At present, more than 100 risk scenes are in workforce within the “Branch of Production and Technology of the Academy.”
Apparently, the last category of new awards created was that of “Achievement in Casting”, established in 2024 and that will begin with the 98th edition of the Oscar Awards for films released in 2025.
