The presentation of the new family of Donut Lab electric motors, on the occasion of the well-known CES 2025can represent a before and after in the world of mobility thanks to the possibilities and features that the brand has confirmed.
Until 5 different variants where power and low weight are combined, as well as a high level of combination with one or more units of the same type.
Donut Lab range of electric motors in detail
Stay with these data: 845 HP of power, 4,300 Nm of maximum torque and an approved weight of 40 kilograms. These are the specifications that Donut Lab announces for its highest range electric motor. Simply incomparable with what we had seen and known until now, with a weight-power ratio of more 21 HP per kilo.
As we recently told you, Verge Motorcycles is no longer content with demonstrating its full potential in the world of two wheels. Now, with the help of Donut Lab, a subsidiary of the Finnish company, it will extrapolate all its technological capacity to other mobility sectors with a presence on land, sea and air.
For this they have worked precisely on this range of electric motors of different dimensions, weight and power. The idea is to be able to supply vehicles of all types with one or more units, depending on the needs of each of them. If we focus on those that could be destined for the world of two wheels, we have, on the one hand, the 17” electric motor that, with only 21 kg of weight, announces 200 HP of power and 1,200 Nm of torque.
Likewise, the 12” option, weighing just 8 kilos, offers a final power of 20 HP and up to 300 Nm of maximum torque. As explained Marko LehtimäkiCEO of Donut Lab: “The large unsprung mass has been the main reason why no one has used motors integrated into the tires of their vehicles.”
He concludes by arguing on the topic: “Thanks to the torque and power density we have achieved, the relative weight of the engine is so small that, for the first time, the unsprung mass is negligible.”
With this perspective, the company seeks to offer its clients the possibility of integrating a scalable platform in terms of power and space, which also has a simple plug-and-play system according to the needs of each moment.
For now, Donut Lab has not confirmed the exact launch date of its range of electric motors, although it already warns that this is only the beginning of this story and that in addition, they intend to provide service with this technology from trucks to vehicles. aeronautical or all types of ships.
