There are already several seasons in which the acronym M 1300 gs They sound strongly to become the new flagship of the Bavara firm within the ADV segment. However, to this day, everything has been “in borage water”, as they usually say in these parts from where a server typed these lines. And it is not because BMW Motorrad does not feel the matter. Perhaps it is more a mere issue of commercial strategy and marketing directed from the high instances of the brand.
Among other things because, today, the Muniquesa firm has more than covered its GS offer with different versions of power and equipment, with R 1300 GS Adventure as a spearhead of it. So it is time to ask if BMW would be willing to go one step further with a variant M 1300 GS, where the final weight was essential to achieve a truly efficient machine.
BMW M 1300 GS: Two theories and one model
The main issue in this whole story is based on how BMW would face the development of a Mc 1300 gs new invoice. Basically, because some international media address the matter from two well -differentiated technical visions. On the one hand, there would be the possibility that the German brand opts to build a sports cutting monster similar to some of the most exotic preparations developed on the model, which we have spoken in SMN in different articles.
In particular there is one that would be in total tune with this matter and that is none other than the R 1300 GS passed to Supermotard by Greg Mansell, general director of The Mansell Collection (a motorcycle dealership located in Jersey, one of the islands located in front of the French coasts). Already last year about to beat the current record in the Bouley Bay Hill Climb, and has recently managed to lower that time staying at just 0.05 seconds of the record.
As a curious fact in this whole story is the chosen decoration this season by the coach to dress his “GS Hi-sports”. Specifically, it shows the colors m of the brand and equips 17 ”tires, Brembo brakes and sports tires, 200 mm in the posterior axis. In addition, the motorcycle has been stripped of everything that is not necessary to mainly reduce the final maximum weight.
Similar to the latter we have also known other height projects where the 1300 GS becomes much lighter and more sports, such as R 1300 gs of VTR Customs or the SSM Motorrad GS in Nice. In both preparations its creators have gone a step further in everything related to pure benefits, although we really do not know if this is the path that BMW would follow when giving life to the long -awaited M 1300 GS.
Among other things, because the brand already has a mount that perfectly covers all these demands, and that is none other than the m 1000 xr, a beast that combines power, sportsmanship and technology with the ability to offer the highest level when Touring capacities talk. Therefore, it is here that the second theory of the final approach arises that BMW Motorrad could already prepare for a dreamed M 1300 GS.
At this point, we focus on the theory they handle from Speed Week, where they advocate a pure and hard offroad approach. That is, an R 1300 GS that will efficiently pair the qualities offered by the standard model with the Old School SUV aim that has already shown to have the newly released R12 g/s.
It looks like a nonsense, but it is not, since we would be talking about a M 1300 gs Rally type with 21 and 18 -inch wheels, in front and behind respectively, as well as a greater suspension route and especially a general lightening of the final weight. To do this, BMW would use the platform of its R 1300 GS standard, adding all those necessary components to increase the hardest capabilities of the model.
This would go through a braking team in line with the new demands or a revised support for the cardan type tilting. Likewise, the brand could use light materials such as carbon fiber for the manufacture of some of its parts and adapt the technological plane to the new model approach.
On the contrary, the power and torque figures would remain unchanged, with 145 hp and 149 NM respectively, although it could have an electronic management adapted to the technical approach required for the M 1300 gs.
Everything indicates that this possibility could end up materializing for next year. Some even bet that the M 1300 GS could reach the official concessionaires of the brand around the Spring of 2026.
On the other hand … will the brand offer us any advance on the occasion of a new edition of the well -known Milanés Eicma? … everything is possible.
