Bad news for the Cologne salon. The organization has confirmed that the next edition of Intermot It will take place from February 12 to 14, 2027, abandoning the date initially scheduled for December 2026. It will also be the first time that the show will be held in February and it will do so in a smaller format, limited to just 3 days.
This new change of dates marks another chapter in the irregular trajectory of Intermot in recent years. Before the pandemic, and until 2019, the Cologne show was held every two years in October and was one of the great international platforms for the world premieres of new models. However, as we all know, that role was progressively lost in favor of EICMAthe Milan show, which is held every November and has established itself as the great global showcase of the sector.
The attempt to relaunch Intermot in 2022 as an international presentation fair it did not meet expectations, and since then the event has gradually reduced its ambition. In the 2024 and 2025 editions, the size had already been significantly reduced, with only two pavilions and a duration of four days.
As we are telling you, with the new date announced by the German Motorcycle Industry Association (IVM), conceptual sponsor, and by Koelnmesse As an organizer, the adjustment is even more evident. Intermot It not only shrinks in space, but also in time, going to 3 days when in the past it was extended to 6, including days for press and professionals.
The repositioning of the room also has a strategic reading. Being celebrated in mid-February places Intermot in the middle of the spring regional fair season and places it in direct competition with “Motorrad Dortmund“, the largest spring motorcycle show in Germany. Barely 3 weeks apart and less than 100 km will separate both events. And, what’s more, within the same federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and with a very similar target audience.
Everything indicates that the Dortmund organizers will interpret this movement as a declaration of intentions on the part of Cologne. Meanwhile, the cancellation of Intermot 2026 confirms that the show continues to search for its place in an increasingly saturated European calendar and, above all, dominated by EICMA from Milan.
