Starting from the premise that extreme enduro races are already, by conception, a little crazy, the next step is even a little more “crazy”. Although it has been done for a long time in some events, it is still curious to see what are known as handlebar races.
It is a peculiar race, in this case on an extreme enduro track, where instead of competing on motorcycles, the participants hold a handlebar with both hands, put on their glasses and run!
Yes, now that we are in full “therian” fever this could be an equivalent, although more for a laugh than for feelings of being motorbikes. It is still curious the way in which the organizers decided to cover some time between races and that has ended up becoming a key part of some events.
Could we be facing the most economical extreme enduro?
This specific video belongs to a round of the SuperEnduro World Championship, and although in some places mention was made of the Handlebar Race of the Paris SX, the truth is that it is about the round held on January 31 in Budapest, Hungary.
But leaving this discrepancy aside, the interesting thing is that it simulates the event of an extreme enduro race at least in part. There is a parallel start, everyone waits for the fence to fall to start and then compete to reach the finish line first. In fact, in the first corner there is no room for everyone and everyone looks for the inside.
So it’s quite curious, fun and quirky; and although they do not complete the entire route, which would be exhausting and even a little dangerous depending on the areas, the spectacle is not bad at all. Furthermore, in a way it reminds us of those children who, when the motocross and supercross races finished in the towns in the ’80s and ’90s, went out to the circuit to run around making the noise of the motorcycles.
In the end it will be true that everything is invented…
