It’s now official: MotoGP will have Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, KTM and Yamaha on the grid until 2031

It has been a long time coming, but MotoGP has already officially assured the continuity of its five current manufacturers for the next championship cycle. After the rumors of recent days, the representatives of the championship and the manufacturers (Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, KTM and Yamaha) have announced the signing of an agreement for the period 2027-2031, an important stage for the category due to the arrival of the new technical and sporting framework.

The striking thing about this agreement is that on this occasion separate negotiations have not been carried out with each brand, but rather it has been the same agreement signed by all the manufacturers integrated into the MSMA. This is a change in the usual dynamics to date, and it is the first time in the history of MotoGP that all manufacturers negotiate as a collective to reach the agreement for the next five years.

This signature, of which the details are unknown beyond the limit of 6 motorcycles per brand from 2028 as long as the 5 manufacturers are on the track, represents a certain stability before the change in regulations that starts in 2027 and in which everyone is working hard. The agreement covers the presence of current manufacturers and establishes a common basis from a sporting, technical and commercial point of view. Work is also being done in parallel with the 11 teams on the grid, with whom MotoGP has already agreed the main terms for the same period, although the official announcement will come at another time.

MotoGP makes the agreement official, but omits the details

As we say, the official communications do not go into specific details about technical regulations, competition format or commercial distribution. Of course, it makes it clear that MotoGP, the manufacturers, the teams and the FIM are working together to review opportunities for improvement on a technical and sporting level, with safety as one of the points included in that process.

The other part of the agreement has to do with the global growth of the championship. MotoGP Group intends to continue investing in promotion, commercial development and interaction with fans, within a strategy shared with manufacturers to increase the value of the competition over the coming years. This “demand” on the part of the championship had been made public and, therefore, it is expected that the image of the competition will be reinforced.

The pact also comes after the long-term collaboration announced between MotoGP and the FIM until 2060. With the manufacturers confirmed until 2031 and the teams pending to publicly close the agreements, it seems that everything is moving forward towards 2027. Now we only need to start knowing about signings and renewals, something that is expected to happen soon.

As is to be expected in these situations, both the highest representative of the championship and the brands have given their point of view (very correct and congratulating) on an agreement that, according to rumors, has had its moments of tension.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP Group: «Today marks a decisive moment for MotoGP. The commitment of the five manufacturers not only reinforces the current strength of the championship, but also highlights the shared ambition driving its future. Together with our historic collaboration with the FIM until 2060, this agreement provides us with a solid platform to continue growing, building on decades of progress and accelerating towards a new stage for the sport.

I want to thank our manufacturers for their long-term collaboration, alignment, and commitment throughout this process.

“While we are proud of the growth MotoGP has achieved over the past decades, our focus is firmly on what is next: expanding our global reach, evolving the sport and connecting with new audiences around the world.”

The agreement covers the new regulatory cycle

Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing: «As president of the MSMA, I am delighted and proud of the agreement reached between our association and MotoGP SEG. It is the first time in the history of this sport that all manufacturers have reached a unanimous position on an agreement with MotoGP. This means that we all share the same vision about the future of this sport.

“The MotoGP brand has enormous potential and only by working together can we take advantage of all the opportunities that the global market offers and grow together in the sports and entertainment industry.”

Luigi Dall’Igna, General Manager of Ducati Corse: «This collective agreement between MotoGP and all manufacturers represents a significant milestone for our sport. The shared commitment of everyone in the paddock demonstrates that, although we compete fiercely on the track, we are completely aligned in ensuring a bright and prosperous future for MotoGP.

This agreement provides stability and clear direction for the years ahead, creating the right environment for manufacturers to continue investing in technology, performance and talent. “We are proud to be part of this shared vision and fully committed to contributing to the continued growth of the championship, delivering extraordinary racing to fans around the world and helping MotoGP reach new levels of success in the years to come.”

Koji Watanabe, President of HRC: «As Honda HRC, we are pleased to have reached an agreement as part of the MSMA with MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group for the next five years of the MotoGP World Championship.

This agreement lays the foundation for the future of the MotoGP World Championship with a clear and unified vision and objective: to continue to grow and improve the sport, something unanimously agreed and supported by all parties involved.

“With this agreement, Honda confirms that its commitment to Grand Prix racing remains unchanged and we look forward to continuing to compete for many more years.”

Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsport Director: «This is an important and significant moment for MotoGP and for all of us at KTM. What is most notable is the strong alignment between all parties involved and the shared ambition to continue driving the sport forward.

We have invested heart, passion and hard work into our MotoGP project, and it has been inspiring to see how the championship has evolved into such a competitive and global platform.

MotoGP represents the best of our sport: performance, innovation and pure competition, connecting with fans around the world. This new agreement provides us with a solid basis to continue improving, demanding more and fighting for top positions against the best in the world. “We are proud to be part of this journey and excited about what is to come.”

Paolo Pavesio, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing: «This agreement marks the successful conclusion of a long and, at times, complex negotiation, which ultimately provides great value for all parties.

It has been an important opportunity to align around a shared vision and establish a common framework that supports the long-term growth of MotoGP, something we are proud to contribute to.

As MotoGP enters this new stage, we see a clear opportunity to elevate the championship even further by balancing innovation, sporting excellence and fan engagement. By continuing our investments both on and off the track, we are convinced that MotoGP will maintain its position as the premier class of motorcycling while increasing its global appeal.

“Yamaha remains fully committed to MotoGP for the next five years and beyond, supporting our teams, riders and fans with the passion and dedication that defines our history.”
